Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 WIP
After reviewing my older model, I figured I wanted to finish, and clean up this one.
I made some mirrors for it, see below. I could always use criticisms, so fire away. Also, I made new rims, Intercooler and windshieldwipers. (not shown yet.) watch again tomorrow! Last edited by Robbert543; 03-12-2008 at 10:53 PM.. |

I'd consider ditching that background. It is way to log resolution for the model you have posted. Also, your car is almost two stories tall according to your background.

le1setreter: Yeahyeah..
I am actually working on some interior features right now.2135: You are totally right, I got it to work properly before, But I can't stand this. I went back to a grey-ish white background, and reflective ground plane. renders later. ![]() |

Here a little update, I mapped the intercooler, and rendered the mirrors.
to get rid of the size issue of the HDRi, I put the car on a reflecting plane, which I think looks a lot better anyways. suggesziones? By the way.. what is up with no shadow under the car? |

Looks better with mirrors.
![]() Crits: - what's with the material on the triangular glass pane at the base of the rear view mirror? - you may need to raise the car a little bit as wheels seem to go through the ground. - the windows' material need work, it's not looking like a glass pane ATM (try increasing the reflection), same with headlights. - shadows under the car. Can you post the lighting setup you use? Just guessing: did you check "cast shadows" in the light source (my 2 cents!)?

thanks for the useful crits man.
The triangular material; I saw that too, I have no idea. weird. I'll fix it. Raising car/ lowering ground plane; you are completely right. unfortunately, the front wheels do not end as high as the rear, so only the rear wheels look alright. I'll see what I can fix. windows' material; I did not really think about that, but indeed. I kinda thought I needed to decrease reflection, but I'll give it a try. the big one: shadows. I don't know what I do wrong, because as soon as I switch from MRay to scanline, the shadows do show up, but way too sharp. So I tried fixing it with some GI, but now the shadows are waaay to vague. please see attachment. ![]() |

I'm no lighting expert at all so you have to wait until someone else comes up but, have you excluded the plane which is right above the car from the omni? Maybe the plane stops the light emitted by the omni. (not really sure about sure, doesn't make much sense)
I guess you did otherwise the image wouldn't be that bright. My 2 cents! Try and light the scene with just the omni to see if you still have the same issue.

Thanks for your input. I deleted the skylight, and got the exact same effect; no shadow. I didn't check for lightexclusion, I will in a minute.
but for now, I have a little turntable video. please check it out, and feedback. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lio1FJMQTAM |

the shadow's there, its just that the plane you have has a reflective material on it.

I hate to disagree, but even with a plane that has the regular grey material, there is still no proper shadow.
does someone happen to know of some awesomely-awesome tutorial on Mental Ray rendering? on a sidenote.. the lighting in the video I liked. but after restarting Max at school, it does not look the same anymore. what the deuce! |

What is that big plane floating above the scene? Perhaps that is casting a shadow over everything so nothing else is casting shadows. Everything would still be lit because you have a really bright light with GI plus a skylight. Try disabling shadows on that plane.

omnis aren't affected by shadow planes.
