And here goes another update on the dragon. Didn't do much, just slapped a few highlights on it and tweaked the background a bit more. Still a long way to go.

More highlights added, some shadows, some SSS on the wings and crest.

So, the dragon is now pretty much finished. I've added some reflections and refraction, a lot more shadows and shading and overlayed some green and gray on his scales. Added more highlights for a more metallic look and voila... All I have to do now is finish off the background.
Usually I finish the background first but in this case I focused first on the dragon.

very nice looking, the rendering is awesome, you should try a stronger shadow right under his paws

I agree with JB about the shadows. It would make it feel more like it is really there.

And here goes the final image. I've adjusted the colors just a bit and worked the ground. I've also added just a bit of fog over the trees for more depth. I'll see if I can assemble a gif of all these steps.

darknake, I don't do a lot of speed painting but next time I'll have some spare time I'll try to use that Camtasia software I have around to make a quick movie. But its not a promise since I'm kinda swamped in work nowadays.

Awesome one, I like the neck's design and lightning work.
Just a critical comment, background clouds seem a bit grey, don't know if it's wanted (Client or you?) or maybe image compression/loss of colors?
But with my point of view, it gives a cold atmosphere to the image that erase a bit the presence of the old one, the blue sky too.
I think that maybe with an "hotter" background (yellow/orange or red global ambient lightning) it'll push out a bit the dragon? What do you think?
It's just a small suggestion from the little level 1 newbie adventurer into da big dungeon.
