what software would you invest in to set up a modelling studio?

Hi All,

I have been toying with an idea to set up a small studio in asia where the purpose to soley create models only. I am estimating about 4 full time staff, they will work on custom modelling jobs if we get any contracts but for the majority of time make models that we will give away for free from a new 3d total library.

I wanted to ask advice on what software you guys would kit the studio out with bearing in mind price, usability and speed of modelling and texturing? and any other comments on this idea....

Thanks

Tom

well to have costs as low as possible and as its only modelling I would vote for blender.

Or maybe C4D. The basic version is not very expensive, and in my opinion it works easier than blender.

Hah, spamming the admin's thread. These bots are getting smarter and smarter by the day.

On topic: I have noticed most people recommend XSI for modelling. It's about in the same price range of 3dsmax/maya/xsi. 3dsmax 2010 does have some awesome new tools ( graphite ) that just need a while for modellers to get used to. Settings money aside, the best way to go would be to simply use the software that each modeller is most used to.

Yes, but that would mean 4 times $3500. So So your ready to go for $14000, and thats just the 3D packadge software. Off course you'll need the computers, office, etc. And the clients to get the money back. So with that in mind it wont hurt to start out with something less expensive.
