dark_maggot - Gender Bender - Female Link
Just noticed that we can make separate threads this time if we want to.
So here is my start, since I already named the thread female link and i am leaning toward this one. I'll just go ahead and go with this character, didn't really care which but I just love this character too much not to do a gender bender of him. Ok here is my concept sketch again. Cheers. |

Thanks guys for all the comments.
And yes the fact that link is a pretty "clean" male character makes the transition much easier and plus I didn't want to try and do something too complicated because of time concerns. |

Nice idea Dark Maggot! Considering how Link and Zelda are counterparts anyway, and both have pointy ears and blonde hair (and blue eyes, I think), I was thinking that any attempt might just end up looking like Zelda (or Sheik), but yours somehow doesn't! It's probably the hair style, but kudos on the accomplishment!
I love the style here - it totally meshes with Twilight Princess' style. All the details, materials, snaps and tie-things...if you pull this off well, it's gonna be awesome! Can't wait to see more, and good luck, man!

Good idea D-M, had the same one myself. I like your sketch, very well developed and clear.
One of the ways to push the concept of the female version of Link, and to distinguish him from the androgynous males of anime and video games is to alter his silhouette. Basically men are tubes, straight lines up and down. Women are curved more than men. Now I'm not saying she should get crammed into the "Pin-up Proportions Machine" but subtle changes in mass and places wear garments hang will go a long way in selling your character. You have a great start with the longer boot. Also femming up the weapons and accessories is a good idea as well. A great source of inspiration for any fantasy/elf design is to look for the female characters designed by Nobuteru Yuki for the original Lodoss War OVA. |

Really nice design. It does look a lot like zelda. I like the redesigned boots and shoulder pads, but I think if you could take the design of the sword harness farther. Maybe just change it up a bit so that the strap isn't going through the middle of the chest. just a thought. nice design, I'm looking forward to seeing your modeling work.

Wow! Talk about a well executed gender transformation. Not too much of a stretch, but that's the beauty of it. You've successfully swapped genders while keeping the initial character intact. Bravo.
Great subtle clothing differentiations. They really sell the femininity. Keep at it. |

Female Link WIP
Here is some progress on the model, I think I might be done with the base body but might change geometry and stuff if needed like proportions etc. to exaggerate a bit more the shapes. The weird cuts on the body is where I separated parts like the boots etc. will be removed.
Cheers |

Female Link WIP
I'm seeing great work from everyone, so I felt I should post more progress on mine.
Im almost done with the basic clothes, after this I have the sword, shield, and whatever accessories I might add. I want her to look more like an adventurer so I will add more bags and stuff to her than what link usually has visible. I see some weird polys on the boot and some other parts need to be cleaned but pretty happy so far. Here it is. Last edited by dark_maggot; 05-08-2009 at 11:18 PM..
