need help with the "flow" of edges on a model

hello, i'm having some trouble getting my model as i want them to be and still get a clean mesh. first i wonder how important it is to keep a good flow on the edges, and also if you have any good tips how to plan to get a clean mesh. here's an example of a model i work on, i guess it's "quite" chaotic (mostly thinking about the chest and arms)... i really need some help with the planning i guess

another angle, if you don't mind point out how i should put the "loops" of the edges... and tell me if i just should remake the body because of the unclean mesh.
