MA5B Assult Rifle (Halo) Model Help

Hey guys im attempting to model the MA5B Assult Rifle from the game Halo but im having difficulties in getting the shape right or how to start modelling it i.e. model each section (split the gun in sections and then put them together rather than model the whole thing) Can anyone suggest what way to model this and what i should model first. It seems that the front top part of the rifle is hard, it has a wierd shape as you can see, it sort of bulks out a bit.

Thanks to those who can help!

P.S. I have attached some images of the weapon and one of the image is a side view wich im using as a BG Image to work from

the way im modelling my g36k is by starting with the barrel (tube) then a box at the base of the barrel for the main portion of the weapon the "outline" so to speak, and then model around that, so with your model, make the main section first, everything that looks molded together and then the "top bit" and the hand grip. See how you get on

You can also try a spline cage as a base

Oh man, its hard im so stuck i just can't get the dam shape right i definatly need some pratice. I just wish i had better images to work from giving me a bottom, top, side, front and behind view of this gun so i can see what the shapes look like.

I want to start with the easiest part first
How about this part high-lighted in red that seems straight forward.

Im a newbie-moderate at modelling and this is my first time doing a model of a gun. So please tell me how i can do this, or try modelling it and tell me how to do it. Then i can learn how to model hard shaped objects.
