BananaMan - Insect - Mud dauber
So I started on a Mud dauber, and gave him spiderish legs. But I think I'll give him his own legs back since these look a bit huge and silly. What do you guys think?
Anyway, here are the pictures, 998 triangles so far: ![]() ![]() |

K, so I changed my mind, I'm probably gonna keep the legs this way because it does make him look more evil and less elegant. Which fits the topic better.

The legs seem to work, but the wings get a bit lost in there as a result. Perhaps have a play with them too to see if it all fits in or not. Nice tidy model though!

Yeah you are right about the wings. I kept them true to my reference, but I think changing them would fit the model better. I'll see if I can steal some triangles from the antennas or body and add some smaller wings.
Thanks for the comment ![]() |

You could seriously reduce the wings and give them their shape back with the Alpha. Each major wing could be 3 tris (a tri with the point into the body and then a "quad" of tris at the end for the bulk) and then the extras could be used for the smaller wings.
Just a thoght. Cheers~

Yes good point on the wings. I thought about doing as you said, but since I'm a huge noobie when it comes to texturing I'd rather use a bit more triangles on my wings and safe the texture space I would waste using big triangles.
But lucky for me I noticed I used alot of triangles on the antennas, so after reducing those it gave me plenty of triangle to upgrade other parts of the insect. (mostly the legs and wings) Anyway, here is an update. As you can see I went for the original legs. I would have liked to have a bit of fantasy to my insect, but I'd rather have a copy of nature than a bad fantasy design ![]() ![]() |

Aye, good call, nothing wrong with a nice model of a real world insect. Model looks really nice, looking forward to the textures.

The overall shape looks great now. Now you just have to unwrap and texture...!
