ianchaos - Goofy Gun - Moustache Launcher
When the kids on the street were whining that their new izunepods couldn't connect to the area wi-fi, the local barber Andy McDandy just smiled and shook his head.
When some of his customers complained that they were having trouble streaming intertube videos to their 1080z Panasony LCDs, Andy nodded in well feigned sympathy. But when Andy went to check his AOL account on his 2400 baud modem later that night and got a "Can Not Connect" message he knew something had to be done. Thus was born the Moustache Launcher. Because as the old saying goes..."There's nothing Aliens hate worse than a fake Moustache". ![]() |

Found some time today to throw together the model.
Here's a quick render (no textures yet) and the wires. I've just come in under 1000tris...the 7 planes at the bottom of the wires shot is for the moustaches. ![]() ![]() |

Classic idea! Might have to add a 'tache to my insect when it's done, just for giggles

I think you should lower the side count on your smaller rounded objects, like the broom handle, the bar holding the the brush and the glue tube. 3 to 5 sides should be more than enough (personally would do 4 sides.) I'd up the sides on the barber pole to a min of 8 and might even bump that up to 10 if you can. I would also add another loop to the back of the pole to round out the dome where the broom is going in. Look at your first image that area is difficult to read as it is.

Thanks for the great advice dhin.
I did as you suggested and bumped up the barber pole to ten sides and trimmed at lot of the unimportant stuff down to 4 or 5 sides. I could probably trim a little more off if I need it, but right now I'm at 949 tris and overall it looks better. Now that I look at it, I'll probably use some of the extra tris to smooth out the strap that's holding the brush to the barber pole...but no time right now. ![]() ![]() |

Looks better this way. With extra you can make a few more m'taches and add glue particle drips.
I always have to remind myself to put the detail in the larger areas of the mesh and leave the small area details to texture.

Ya, killer idea, excellent use of barber type elements. Really digging this.
Might be a bit late to suggest this, but how about one half of a pair of scissors as a bayonet? EDIT: you can clean up the back of the handle a fair bit. You need the geometry in the front to get the grip shape, but there's no need for all of it on the back of the handle.

Alright last changes before I finish laying out the UVs and get to texturing.
I stripped as many tris as I could out of my last version to include Warlock's brilliant scissors bayonet idea...and to smooth out a few other things that needed it. here she is -- weighing in at 992 tris -- the Moustache Launcher ![]() ![]() |

Handle looks much much cleaner now. Texture time is it, have at it!
