Turn off Tweening in 3D Studio Max
Is there a way to toggle of tweening in 3D Studio max. I am using bipeds but its is very hard to get a feel of my timing with these tweens. I will use them but for not I would like to turn them off. I know you can do this in Maya but can you do so in Max?

interpolation frames (tweening) - Is the frames the aniamtion program (3ds) puts in between your key frames. So you set a key for A then a key for B and the program puts in the missing frames. I need this of course but I would like it turned off so I can see the timing of my animation appose to seeing my character morph from pose to pose.

If I anderstand, you create a key at frame 0 and another one at frame 20, and you get 19 keys created in the middle on each frames, if that is the case, well that is very weird, as I never got that problem before, it sound like some kind of autobake, did you play with some scripts lately, otherwise sorry but i got no idea on that one.

*g* I think you got that problem before too, Bob
Interpolating the movement between two frames is a normal behavor of max and any other animation-software I know. What bromox want is stop motion-animation, which normally nobody wants. Sorry bromox, I donīt know any switch If I need that a motion stops after a specific frame I copy the same key from (to stick to bobs example) frame 0 to frame 19. This way there is no change at all until reaching frame 20. But if you find a way, let us know! |

I'm a maya user, do you mean stepped tangents?

yes Thee that is what I mean, However unsure how to do this in 3D Studio Max
Just clarify to everyone else I do want tweens but I want them later after I pose my animation. When I hit play to see my timing of my animation it is so hard. Instead of seeing pose, pose, pose. I see pose, then morphs into next pose. This is not good. I will need tweens but for now I want it off so I can set my keyframes, check my timing and when I am ready I can then turn it back on.

Thee with your screen shot I just went around and looked for that icon. It was right under my nose in the graph editor. Silly when that happens but yes to anyone who needs to set up poses and then pass onto supervisor for approval make sure your keys in your curve editor are set to step to step so they can watch your poses and get a good sense of your timing, appose to watching your character morph from pose to pose.
Cheers and thanks for all your help everyone

I have just noticed however that the biped does not allow the graph editor to alter the tangents between the objects unless you right click and choose options however these are much more limited then the shortcuts above. I tired making a bone joint with links and I was still able to set to step tangents. If anyone finds out how to set your biped animation to step tangents please let me know. Thanks very much
