The Slayer
Game Art Challenge 01 Subject – The Slayer ![]() ![]() Thread Naming: Your Name – The Slayer – Character’s Name Keep all questions in this thread Before bed every night when I was young I was told a fairytale about a creature of unthinkable power and the man that conquered it. If I remember correctly the story ends with the creature being sealed away inside of a magical book and the warrior who defeated the creature being sealed in a similar book. This brings us to the present, seems like every time peace consumes the universe someone goes and screws it all up. Today is no different. The bad news, the books are real and the creature has been released. It wastes no time destroying the very book that kept it confined for over the centuries. Now, the world needs someone to step up and put this creature down. It’s time to release the Slayer. DUE DATE: November 30th, 11:59 pm GMT - MONDAY Idea: Create and model a character who appears to be a Slayer of Mythical Beasts. Time period is open, Slayer can be alien, male or female. Use of technology is ok but no full on robots allowed. Poly limit: 10,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 10,000 Tri Limit. Remember, the limit tells you where to stop, there is no minimum, so use as much of the limit as you see fit. Textures: -1 x 2048 Color Map -1 x 2048 Reflection Map -1 x 2048 Specular Map -1 x 2048 Specular Color Map -1 x 2048 Normal Map -1 x 2048 Bump Map -1 x 2048 Opacity (transparency) Map -1 x 2048 Glow map -1 x 2048 Glossiness map. You can not chop it up into multiple smaller textures. Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do. Pedestals/Stands: You do not have to create one, but if you do, understand that there is no texture or tri limit. You can go as crazy as you want, or keep it basic. Resrictions: -2-sided polies with two separate uv channels are permitted. -Joint entries are prohibited for this challenge -Your entry must be specifically created for this challenge. Do not use any pieces from previous personal works. -There are no lighting restrictions. -All Game Engines are allowed. Judging: Will start with public vote to decide the top 10, then a private panel will come together to choose the top 3 placements. Prizes: <-click here 1st Place e-on software - Vue 8 Infinite Topogun - Single user license Digital Tutors - Semi-Annual Membership 2dartist or 3dcreative digital magazine, 12 month subscription Focal Press - Any 2 books 3DTotal - Any 3DTotal book 3DTotal - t-shirt 2nd Place Eat3d - Any DVD (download) Focal Press - Any book 2dartist or 3dcreative digital magazine, 6 month subscription 3DTotal - t-shirt 3rd Place 3DTotal - Any 1 eBook 3DTotal - t-shirt 4th Place 3DTotal - t-shirt 5th Place 3DTotal - t-shirt Final Pictures: Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry): - 1 x Winning shot. This image should consist of your character depicted in its most awesome angle and pose. - 1 x Beauty shot of your character. Feel free to put multiple angles of your character or just one big version or your character on this page. You are free to do whatever post effects you like on this image. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you. - 1 x Construction shot of your character. Feel free to put multiple wire frame shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you. - 1 x Texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet. - Concept Sheet (if you have one) Good luck everyone! BiG ToE. Dang....Nov.30th? That's gonna be a bit tight for such a seemingly epic contest.
"Use of technology is ok" means that we can do sci-fi, right? I've done so many fantasy heros over the past year, I've been itching to do some sci-fi. |

yeah, sci-fi is ok.
this is the test challenge, so the timelines may change as we see how things turn out. On a side note, you don't have to use all 10,000 tris, that would help with the time limit as well. |

This is nice - prizes are pretty impressive too which should up the game a little
I'm inclinced to agree with Buzzy on the deadline though. I'm pretty confident I'm not going to be able to slot this into my evenings ![]() |

I can't really do anything about the due date for this one. It's the first of many, so we will see how things work out with this one and change things up as needed.

Damn, that's a good topic, but I'm in India for the next couple of weeks so the deadline is way too tight for me right now... Good luck to everyone who enters though

un question on my hunt for inspirations...
anybody remember the name of the 2000AD story about dinosaur hunting with time machines. It was either illustrated by simon bisley or just looked like it and featured a scantily clad lady savage, lots of dinosaurs and massive chainsaws on the end of big trucks? |
