Welcome to the first of what we hope many MONTHLY CHALLENGES which are spread across the entire forum. This section is the Speed Modelling Section.

Every Myth & Legend has it's heroes and it's villains, but most importantly they always have a Mythical or Legendary weapon, A weapon that can defeat the bad guys, slay the dragons or reign all powerful over the lands and it's inhabitants.

You're challenge if you choose to accept it is to make the best weapon.

Due Date: November 30th, 11:59 pm GMT - MONDAY

Idea: Create a Legendary Weapon, this can range from Axes, Swords, Crossbows to Pistols, Machine Guns & Cannons. The Weapon can be alien, mythical, medeival, roman, viking, future wars, steampunk. Use of technology is ok but no full on robotic weaponry or present day weapons allowed. Think Legendary Weapon.

Time Limit: 120 Mins, multiple entries are allowed.

Competition Restrictions:

Weaponry created must be of a Mythalogical/Legendary standard, no present day weaponry. Although use of Robotic/Mechanical/Steampunk additions are acceptable.

Your entry must be specifically created for this challenge. Do not use any pieces from previous personal works. We are relying on your honesty here.

Final Pictures

1x Beauty shot of your weapon. Feel free to put multiple angles of your weapon or just one big version or your weapon on this page. You are free to do whatever post effects you like on this image. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you.

1x Wireframes of the weapon. Feel free to put multiple wireframe shots both screen grabbed and cell rendered, the more angles and good clear wireframes the better.

1x Clay render, a detailed clay render of the model created, again with as many angled shots as you like or one big render of the weapon.

All images should be no larger than 1024x1280 in a portrait or landscape format. All images must be at least larger than 800x600 or bigger to qualify. All images must be uploaded to the threedy severs via the attachment button in the advanced section of the thread page.

Time spent on the weapon does not include texturing, lighting or rendering.

State your software of choice, and time spent somewhere on your entry. Any additional details such as lighting and texturing and rendering times are optional.

Will all SMCs be over a full month from now on, or will you sometimes split them up into two or more per month?

this is the first run of our Monthly challenges, time will only tell on how this is received and indeed how we go forward from here. The two per month option is a possible outcome though.

well you're certainly bumped the prize list, meaning we should bump our skills as well to match. No crucial change, i will be sad to see speed modeling challenges only 1 per month - it was a driving force to my modeling, but be this as it may for now, let's get cracking and get those flashy details going

@ gnome - about 800x600 pixel rate must be that CG firmly believes in details and you can't show them without a higher resolution

Couldn't have put it better myself

There is every possibility that the normal 1/2 week SMC's will return and possibly run along this monthly.....but for now we are testing this monthly format and we shall go from there ok

Sure, that is clear to me. I only wanted to point out that any one of the three underlined parts would have been enough to convey the message.

Yes, that's one of the reasons why I asked (the other being that sometimes I don't have the motivation to join a challenge because of its theme - mostly I just don't have time, though ).

Though these awesome prices and the long entry time might have some side effects
It might attract more and higher level artists, making it for most 3DT-SMC regulars (near) impossible to win (again).
Also the long period will guaranty most of those will get a moment somewhere to participate

Also i had a little question,
Do nr 1 and 2 get to win every item, or do they have to pick?

unless we are making multiple entries per challenge, our (mine?) 3D portfolio wont grow so quickly anymore with the most random amount of items

though, ill be happy to participate in this challenge, and i hope i make a chance of winning a nice Tshirt
