I'm liking the head and lower half of the 1st one, and the upper half of the 2nd one.

Looks really good so far. Great anatomy.
You definately need to stay away from the ornate armor. It does not look Mongolian at all. |

LedZephyr: thanks man! =D
Buzzy: thanks!.. hopefully I'm not straying away from the theme mongolian.. here's a full view, let me know what you think man.. and by ornate armor did you mean the shoulder plates? updates: The character still needs much work. I'm trying to come up with more original ideas to stay away from character design cliches, really challenging myself to accomplish that, and I'm very happy I'm learning about the mongol culture more and more with my character research.. anyway here's what I have so far, even did some photoshop work for you guys, haha.. also posted some character exploration shots, if anyone's interested.. enjoy! =D Last edited by pogimonz; 13-11-2009 at 06:26 AM.. |

Great work so far. The boots are awesome but they seem out of place somewhat. That design should appear elsewhere on the character, like his shoulder pad or something.
And I know its still early, but his face doesn't look Mongolian at all. |

maybe some fur-topped boots with wrappings would fit?

That's a very cool toon you got going, but in your ref you show Sparrow in what appears to be Chinese Armor, Where did that come from, I couldn't find it.

Looking great so far- although depending on how accurately you want to emulate the ethnic mongolian features, I would flatten the nose and cheek bones somewhat. I know animal hides play an important role within the mongolian culture, that could perhaps be something to consider (fur lined boots, etc...).

Looking good man.
the only thing that is really throwing me off is the chest. His collar bone shouldn't be straight/flat and I think you need to work on the connection between the deltoids and the the pecs. The but looks a little flat or saggy... not too sure. Keep it up man. I like the way you sculpt your legs and knees. |

thank you guys so much for the advice and crits.. it's really what I'm looking
for.. so please continue the help, I appreciate it a lot. haven't been able to work on the project lately due to the Pacquiao fight, haha.. very busy weekend.. anyway here's some work I did tonight applying your awesome suggestions, I worked on the face structure and added the slant asian eyes.. I'm still undecided if I'm keeping the boot's design or go for the common leather mongolian boots (I really like my version better ), but I added the fur liningand I must say, it improved the silhoutte so great idea guys!.. the updates are absolutely WIP shots and will be refined towards the end.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- edit: did some anatomy change, improved the collar bone and chest area (thanks Jerimiah) ..and bulked up the muscles even more to make em stand out in the overall sculpt... thanks for viewing and crit away.. =) Last edited by pogimonz; 19-11-2009 at 12:51 AM.. |
