J.B and aby arty - Thanks so much for the support!
I'm having a great time working the images in this thread and learning tons by doing. It really helps to have all the insight, comments, and positive energy! I'm really glad I decided to dive in to the challenges here. |

Hey! My turn to write something about hehe
You're doing such a great job, in both drawings, and it's certainly rewarding when you get so nice feedbacks...I got through this too, in this very forum =D I must admit that I really liked the last one you posted, and the first sketches were also very good, especially the second one (on the middle)... As for that last image, it's getting really nice...the color palette, the reflections, your attention to detail (the skullpile rocks!)...if you darken up the corners of the picture, it may add to the tension of the scene, I believe. But there's something that kinda 'bothers' me...i know that he's a very strong guy and he can lift up that huge axe with a single hand, but...I don't think that piece of wood can handle all the blade's weight hehe, it seems it's about to break at anytime...=P Good job so far! Waiting for the next update =D

Good point on the ax handle - maybe I'll change that material...
Can't have him losing the battle because of a broken handle (although I'm sure he'd still stab the beast with the leftover pointy stick). Thanks for all the thoughts. And I'm still hoping I might be able to paint that other image (the middle one where they're riding dragons), too... |

This post wraps up this painting (video available here). I think it came out stronger than the first painting - let me know what you think. After a day or two break, I'll see if I can tackle that third and final piece with the dragon riders. I'm going to use this same hero on that one, too - kind of a hero hat trick.

What“s that about videos and courts thing?
AbdultheNewt: Intense scene, good work. It looks like the hero just thought "Grrr... Damn worm...!" ![]() May I suggest you to make the creature bigger and to turn it“s back for the camera? I guess that would make the scene more dramatic. ![]() |

Brazucka - Glad you liked the hero expression. Here's a close up just for fun. I was really happy with how this part of the painting turned out. I think I'm going to try and do the dragon riding sketch that I posted at the beginning of this thread. That'll get us some larger beasties...

I agree, I think you really nailed the hero on this one and I like the color choices, the cold and warm light came out well.

LXD - Thanks for the kind comments. I think that blue/orange (cool/warm) contrasting color combination helps make for a successful mood image.
Feeling a little crazy and going after one more image. Here's the color blocking on the last of the three concepts I proposed at the top of this thread. Going for a third image with this same hero - just to tie the series together. Still pretty rough, but at this point it's just about getting the basic shapes of colors on to the page... ![]() |

Been a while since I've updated - made a little progress tonight. Not sure if I'm liking this better than the previous one, but I'm making an effort to complete it. Still a ways to go, and time grows short as the holiday weekend looms large...

One last update on this third one and I'm going to have to pull the plug - not enough hours available between now and the deadline to complete it. I'm submitting my second image for judging, but wanted to at least share the progress on this one (still a ways to go...). Thanks everyone for all the support.

Nice skecths studies for the scene man, all of 3 are dynamic. I think you choose the better one!
