Matellis-Dragons Lair
![]() Hey guys! I think this might be the first time I have posted on these forums really. I am looking forward to all the entries and I hope I will be able to finish mine. I have a lot going on at the moment but I will try and put some time away for this challenge ![]() Here is my entry so far. I just did a quick thumbnail sketch then put an hour or 3 into the color concept. Hope you enjoy! |

update
![]() Thanks for all the comments guys! Here is another update from me. I had a bit of time over the weekend so I thought I would get cracking on the final matte. I have mainly spent my time on the main rock structure and I hope to refine the background and foreground some more as well. Also I will be adding piles of bones under each cave, and scattered around the ground. I changed the concept quite a bit. I just wasnt very happy with it after a day or so. Any crits are most welcome! Thanks guys |

update
![]() Hey everyone, Just thought I might as well post where I am at. Just about done laying out all the rocks and starting to light them as you can see on the far right bg rock. Here are the references that I have used so far. Whenever I do a matte painting I try and find refences that I can sample from over and over and I was lucky enough to find these images where I could reuse the rock. Although it will take me a bit of time around the end to get rid of any repeating shapes, it helps speed up so many other aspects of the work plus it looks like all the rock is from the same region. ![]() ![]() |

Update
![]() Thanks unity95 and timonza-kun, really glad you guys like it! So I got a little bored of working on the matte so I decided to start working on the dragon design. I want to keep this image bright and sort of cheerful so I gave the dragon a less frightening look. |
