Roberto Gomes - Hero - El Greco

Hey people! I'm starting my thread for the Hero contest! Before saying anything, congratulations for everyone so far, there are some really good works! =D

My entry for the hero is set in ancient Greece...and his name is: El Greco (I know I know, that's spanish, but...it sounds cool =D), despite his gross appearance he's a guy everybody likes to talk to, kind of gentle giant...but never, never, in any circumstances, mess with his drinks, or else...

Here's the concepts and the final drawing for the vbad guy, a cyclops...I'll post the rest of concepts as soon as I finish them!

Cheers to all!!

Nice person! I think you should make him little more friendly, I mean details to understand that he is fighter against the evil)
Also it seem to me he falls a little in front (not well vertical pose i mean)

Hey! As promised, here's the sketches and the final concept of El Greco He is kind of an unlikely hero, a big guy, not that charming, with that hell of a breath...think of an ancient greek Hancock =P the difference to Hancock is that El Greco is kind with people, fun, and sociable. Everyone is his village like him.

Until someone mess up with his drinks...better not to be a bad guy

He wears a big cap, and under it he wears all his combat tricks and 'trophies' from other mytical creatures he shut down.

Suggestions and comments are very welcome!

Hey people! Long time since my last WIP...this is how it's rendered so far: I pasted the characters and the background in one single scene, and now I'm starting the painting process, beginning by what is furthest, in this case, the background.
I'm doing on Painter, I'm starting to think it's a really awesome program once you get used to it!
I'll thank your comments soon guys! =D

animationtutz: Thanks!
M_Cederstrom: Glad to know you liked the concepts, I'll post more as soon as I finish the stages!
J.B.: Thanks, I'm also glad you joined this competition...love your concepts and the humour you put on them! =D
aby arty: I put 10 heads, without counting his monstruous chin hehe...I made him look a big, strong, yet intelligent enough to think "if I see this guy around next time, I wont mess up with him, I promise!" I'll make him look more rough, with some pointy angles and edges

I like it - this is certainly going to be a fun image. I'd recommend having the Cyclops' club overlapping in front of your hero a little - it will reinforce their relative positions and better show that the Cyclops pushed the table over.

Good stuff!

Alright, one more WIP! I finished the basic background, and started doing the foreground (near grass, the stony path, the tavern and housing)...and I followed AbdultheNewt's advice to overlap a little the cyclops'club in front of El Greco, the result seem much more dynamic now =D

I agree with J.B. about your hero being nice and calm - that adds to the tension. You might also play up the shocked reactions of the spectators who can see what's about to happen next.

The shadow stuff that's happening between the buildings looks especially good. And that sidewalk looks really cool. Can't wait to see this whole image rendered.
