A quick question (which I probably already know the answer to). Can you make the backgrounds, textures and renders in a different package to what you modeled in? I think that would not be a problem, but I would like a little clarification.

fastero - U should set up an thread and post the entry there, not in here, in the speed modeling thread (one level above this)
And the time use for shading and texturing is not count in time, u can take all full 180min just for modeling, and rest of month for rendering and shaders but very nice entry u rise the bar up from first entry |

but now an wip is thread is more suitable, in 180 min u can post some wips but in 1 or 2 hours not really feel for posting wips, and most people just post the final model

i have to agree here with rocneasta. 180 minutes is very long. i couldnīt even enter in the 120mins comps becuase i dont have that much time at once. and doing 30 mins now, and 20 mins then, and adding it all up results in a model that isnt very good, and always counting and calculating the time is not fun.
i completely understand the reason why its so long. compared to the value of the prices - 60 minutes seems very short, and compared to the time limit that the others have.but 3 hours isnt speedmodelling anymore. you almost have to take a day off to model, texture and render ![]() perhaps unofficial smcīs would be a nice addition. iīm thinking of an extra thread, like the post your simple renderings etc - that can go on and on. every monday a topic is chosen, and then you throw in your models, next week the same again. no prices no judging, but just c&c. like this is training for the real smcs

because he has a great point, not a great deal of people do have the time to be moddeling for three hours straight, and calculating your time loses time. Make it in parts you say, well, allright, but then you will have a lesser model, because you can't keep going, and once you are warmed up, you have to stop due to time shortage.

Not a bad idea PsychoMantis, that kind of smc training.
But for me 3 hours is still speed modelling, depending on the model, of course. Spending three hours modelling a chariot... seems a good time limit at least if you have to add some evil details. About modelling straight or divide time, well, we all agree is funnier and better to model straight the time, but maybe sometimes you'll be able to do that way, if you can't , (I sometimes have to do it) then divide, even if its not the same, at least you practice and take part at the smc, that is what is all about.
