SnappedStrings - Army of One - Booby Trap Jack

Okay this is just a place holder, I'll get some concepts up later. But I'm definately getting in on this one, especially with school coming to a break soon.

So I spent awhile on this, and to summarize my character:

A young boy who has survived the cataclysm due to the time he spent hunting and camping with his father. His father, ever the avid outdoorsman, taught his son the finer points of crafting traps from scratch and trapping animals. This knowledge has served him well in the twilight of humanity.

Concept art to follow!

Okay, so here's some preliminary sketches before I get more in depth.

I've decided to give him a robot sidekick to kind of boost the idea that he's got alot of ingenuity and he's very resourceful. His robot side kick was, before the end of the world, a Deconstruction Robot (DeBo), tasked with taking apart machines and recycling their scrap metal. In the calamity, his legs were destroyed and because of this, he walks around on his hands.

So, let me know what you think. I eat criticism for breakfast

the idea is really cool dude!
think about making both of them a little bit "scavengers"... I guess they both look just too cute and "clean" fore being survivors...

just a suggestion...when the idea behind is strong all the peaces come together on their own sometimes!

Okay, so here's an updated version.

Thanks for the crit, Mr. fE.

The idea here is that he's got a pack loaded of scavenged items used for creating traps and for trading.

I tried to make the two of them a bit dirtier, as cleanliness would be scarce after the end of the world.

Let me know what you guys think

Okay, so here's a quick update of the base mesh. Feel free to criticize to your hearts content. Any proportional issues are intentional, the character is meant to be moderately stylized.

Also, if anyone would care to comment on zbrush workflow, I'd really appreciate it. I'm not used to zbrushing characters and normal mapping them, so any tips would be much appreciated!

I might as well ask while I'm thinking of it.
Does anyone know of a good crash-course tutorial on Zbrush? Just something to quickly run through layer management and hard surfaces. Thanks!

Good start man, especially the loops in the face, and hands. As for proportion, I would say if you're going to stylize it, you should do so at full force to a point that you can tell it's stylized, imho if you do it too subtly your figure will just end up looking slightly off and confusing to the eye. Also may i suggest lengthening the hoodie a bit? I think he looks a bit awkward with such a long pelvic area. as for tutorials, this site could help: http://cgartist.magnify.net/
cant wait to see that robot!
