Suri (need crits and comments)
hey all, im attempting to make a proper next gen character,
im starting in max then going on to sculpt the high poly in zbrush, then retopo in max, so on and so forth, well i finished the head for now and decided to make the hair next, i've made hair several times already, but the whole point of this model is to get everything right to where it looks like it could actually be in a game, any way here is what i have so far and the concept, i was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction of how to make the hair look, well good, also if anybody has any crits about the topology or anything im open to those to. thanks a bunch!!! ![]() ![]() -latest- Last edited by PONRHartman; 11-02-2010 at 07:57 PM.. |

hey man, welcome to the forums. the mesh is looking good. not much to crit there. except for a funky thing at the nose.
looking at the ref, that guy is badass. the model looks pretty generic. you might want to pop his muscles a lot more and make his jaw stronger/sharper. gl dude. looking forward to the sculpt ooh, i made a wee lill' paint-over for ya. hope you dont mind.

I still think your head looks a little blocky. There are a lot of loops that could be put to better use to define a more curved shape (mainly at the forehead area). As for hair, you could go for the good ol' planes approach (see my attached image).
I'm having a hard time doing the ear for my model, and yours looks really great, so if you could point me to some resources or give some tips I would really appreciate it. Cheers! |

honestly i dont really have a method, im a little suprised the ears came out as good as they did myslef
, i guess what i did is just find a picture of a real ear look at the big forms and base your edge flow on that and just build it a piece at a time, sorry if thats not terribly helpful theres a pretty good head modeling tutorial in the tutorials section tho, http://www.3dtotal.com/ |

The hair is coming out nice. however, i think u need more planes in the middle where the head connects to the pony tail. the face looks really true to the concept. keep it up

I think its looking pretty good overall. With the hair I find it often hard to tell how well it will work out in the end- making hair is one of my weaknesses. I think the direction you're going with it looks good though.
Looking forward to seeing more

The torso is looking good and shapely. However the topology is not flowing really well. here is a link for torso building w/ edge loops. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq86XWvJsiM

hammered out the arms and hands, and worked on the torso a little more
D-Chap - thanks, and yeah the hair is one of my weaknesses too, im trying to get it right on this character tho ![]() E4sY - i worked on the topology a little more near the bottom, the topology here is based off of some anatomy pics i have and little off of grassetti's male model, i think it will sculpt well this way, also most of these faces will be blasted away under the armor any way lol |
