Well I am up for it...
- On the other hand I understand the time issue, and this type of competition is even more susceptible to "wag the dog" issue connected with public voting (tried it once). Also it would have to be postable in thread, not through downloadable links or external links like in the past (or in the past when I checked it). - So yes, I am up for it, but not if there is truckload of work on you already. ... there are results? Found them now! ![]() |

even though the "public" doesnt have a final vote, they can still comment on people's entries. It has happened a lot over the past years, some even went as far as to make a entire post filled with comments on every entry. Ofcourse, those comments could assist in judging, or warn judges about certain dubious procedures. Also i +1 for the animation challenge ![]() I really want to get into animation, i have currently zero experience with it. Also this would greatly help me build a little animation portfolio, i already had two internships that did animation, but it wasn't tasked to me because i had no experience/portfolio of animation. I am also considering taking part in the Animation Mentor program later down the road, though it would greatly help me if i atleast got some basics figured out.

I have an idea about voting system. I read that the moderators are too busy to vote for all final contest entries.
There's a lot of really good professional artists featured in 2dartist/3dcreative magazines. Instead of getting help with public votes to decide the winners, I think the better way to get votes is from professional artists like those interviewed in those 3dtotal magazines. It just doesn't feel right to me to have some voters that doesn't really have any experiences professionaly in making works of 2d/3d art. Last edited by Arteyo; 03-02-2010 at 04:15 AM.. |

I'll butt in becuase i never enter the SMC. If you leave voting to the mods/staff alone you will have people complaining about fairness and favouritism from the staff - this will make threedy look bad even if it's totally unfounded. In turn this will result in challenges getting shut down and prizes going away if voting is left purely to the public you risk rigging or allegations of rigging - the sculpting challenge suffered from this a while back iirc thus, a combination of the two is the best compromise and if I understand it all correctly that's exactly what is in place atm. as for speed modelling and textures. I'd agree that submissions should be restricted to clays. A public vote for the top 5 prevents that happening. |

Although i rarely post here id say -1 to an animation challenge unless a rigged scene would be supplied. Creating a character, rigging it and animating it within a month next to work/school is insane.

I've only posted to this site a couple of times and this challenge looks kinda fun so I want to try and enter. So where do I find the rules and things, and when the contest starts, end and so on? All i've seen is basicly droping work, concepts and such into one of the threads, but I'm sure theres more than that to do. Could someone steer me in the right direction. Thanks,

Which challenge are you specifically interested in. There are numerous and in each section you can find the starter sticky thread with rules. If you have any more questions ask them here if they are not specific to the challenge.

I'm sorry, I was sent an invitation about the (Comming of the Ice) challenge and that is the one i'm intersted in. I thought I was asking in the general discussion thread for that upcoming contest. In my e-mail, it talked breifly of the challenge but was kind of vauge on details and the link directed me to this thread, so I though I was in the right place, so again I'm sorry for any miscommunication. Thannks for any help!

You should have someone make a standard "Threedyman" character for animation challenges...or something like that. One issue, however, is that not everyone uses the same software or the same versions of software. So, you'd need several versions of the character for each platform. |
