JAPO: I thought so too, but do you realize just how slow a process it would be for something of that size to drive itself UP. Gravity would play a BIG role in slowing that down. Unless you had a tremendous amount of power to sustain the motor. Either way it seems like it would take it longer to get out of the hole than it did to drill the hole. I guess that's when the drill workers take a break for tea and crumpets...lol

I like the idea that' its magically removed from the whole. Or Sailor Moon and the sailor scouts all rush in and throw sparkly attacks and tiaras which somehow powers the solar panels and gives it enough energy to drive up.

good version but i think due to the hard times now and the financial crysis , it only uses Merlin or Gandolf the white.

Could you imagine a magical drill machine powered by Criss Angel, David Copperfield, and David Blaine, while operated by the Sigfried and Roy

The drill indeed doesnt "touch" the ice, also the lasers would not only melt, but evaporate the ice, the pressure created by the steam is used to overcome part of its weight when going up, as instead of leading the water/steam through the machine and piping out of the tunnel, it seals itself, the high pressure would be enough to overcome most of its own weight.
though if the lasers fail, it could just crawl back. think of those TBM machines, they can only go a few meters per hour. i think this would be similar then ![]()

Here's another quick update, havnt done much, but i think i am about to round it up and move to the SPANK part, the Solar Panel Array Nexus that supports Killed
![]() i added extra tubing and something to hold it in place, also i changed the tube so it shows better how it should move, and i added tiny lasers to the bottom to the device, they make the tube wider, and make sure its a perfect tube, they do the detailing ![]()

You should not have changed shape of the hole to fit in those treads. There is no mechanism that will drill holes for them. I mean NOW I dont get how the machine moves (although the bottom of the pit looks right now). Before it has been clear. Let me explain:
The locomotion mechanisms (treads) are radially arranged around the vertical axis. The goal is to create enough traction on those treads to control movement of the drill up and down. How to create this traction? We need big surface (treads provide that) and pressure (suspension of those trads provide that). Now in order to move up and down, we need the traction to be on more than 3 points arranged radially. When we have that, then simply by increasing the outward pressure we get more and more control. When we are happy and the outward pressure is bigger than the gravity, we can simply move the drill up and down using only the treads. Simple physics. Its like a cork ![]() So... the hole should be straight all the way to the bottom, where it should be shaped just like you have it now. I love the simple logic of this device Dont spoil itof course this works only in solid environment. On the other hand... you dont need drill if its not solid ![]() |

I think the little semi-spheres with the cylinders sticking out just below the lower treads are small lasers that expand the hole for the treads to fit.

Also, in the case of a mallfunction, the machine cant fall down and crush it's expensive and delicate laser units under its own wheight

here's another update
Im now working on SPANK, the Solar Panel Array Nexus for K.I.L.L.E.D. Im working on a symetrical design that can be rotated 20 degrees to make a total of 18 units. Here is the picture of the most recent version, i still need to add the solar panel, and maybe make something special for the chimney in the center, it should let out all the steam and debris Im also thinking of putting each unit onto a truck, so you see 18 truck cabins on the edges of the circle, those units could be driven in place and coupled together to make this giant drilling support station.
