SMC M#04 - Pables - Solar Ice Driller
Well the name is a bit generic because I'm not sure what kind of design I'm going for, here you have some basic first sketches. Design may change. And still thinking the best way to approach the drill helix.

to be honest a mix of both would be awsome. |

I agree with bgen a mixture would rock! From your concept sketches it could be a cool hybrid walking driller mecha!
![]() Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. Kind Regards CG.

Yes, I have to work on it a bit more, but you're right, I'll do some sketches mixing both designs, thanks mates for watching.
I hope you're feeling better CG. Last edited by pables; 03-02-2010 at 11:55 AM.. |

you could get away with having it use concentrated lasers or even a stream of plasma as its drilling method. You dont need a helix drill bit. Just be mindful that it take a huge amount of energy to power a beam of light for that long. So keep in mind the solar nature of power for the drill.

Yes you're right, but not for nothing in particular, but even if it is a futuristic mecha, I don't know why, but I like the idea of something more...physic than a laser or something, but I like the idea though...arrrrg, I have to do lot of sketches haha.
Thanks for your comment TNT. Today I went to a exhibition of star wars scale models, it was awesome dude, and I saw lot of inspiration there, what a pity I didn't take my camera. Last edited by pables; 03-02-2010 at 07:36 PM.. |

Some ideas before going to bed, I thought of a mecha tail with eyes/camera/sensors at its end. And some kind of hydraulic tubes on its legs to be totally stable when drilling? Hope you like it, still thinking cool designs.

New sketches of the leg detail and the more spherical version of the mecha, which one do you like more?

Hey mates, I've changed the design a bit but I couldn't scan the drawings, I'll post them with the next update if I can put my scanner to work.
I changed the style to a more dreadnought looking specially with the legs, to make them look more robust. Because I didn't like the weak aspect of the old ones. I think they're ok now, robust and stable. Hope you like it, this is what I've got a the moment, still 90 minutes to go. |
