Does anyone have a good example of where to make the seams on a normal hand?

I suggest you to take a look at the previous year's best dominance war entries, and see how they did it. For example, Vitaly Bulgarov (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread...=56869&page=16) merged the upper part of the hand with the forearm, leaving the seams on the palm.
The winner, Dimitry Parkin released the full model, with all textures on his website. His UVW map looks like this for the hand. I hope it helps.
