SR_6274 - Snow Creature - Icy Wolf

Been a while since I joined one of these, or done any 3D work, and I really need to get back into it again. So here is my concept for my snow creature. He is going to be an icy werewolf type guys. Prob no fur, or very little around tail and maybe lower legs. The white things are going to be ice crystals protruding from his body (I know ice crystals or cliche, but best I could come up with lol)

Anyway, here is the concept sketch. My drawing sucks, but hopefully you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. Will start on the base mesh tomorrow, and hopefully actually finish this one.

I dig the idea, and i hope you will finish!

The proportions will be i think the most critical part for this one. Keep an eye on that!

Good luck

Yea, hopefully I can get the proportions that I have in the drawing. I will sketch out his main for using z-spheres then use that as a guide to make the low poly in Max.

I could just use the z-sphere sketch as the low poly, but I always get really bad pinching in areas and it just doesn't come out right. But using it as a guide for the low poly works a little better for me.

If you want to improve your zsphere starting, i suggest you to take a look at these tutorials directly from zbrush makers. (http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/homeroom/) Inside this side, you can see the sketching with zspheres part at the left. Once you click that, there are a few videos you can watch!

I hope it helps.

Ahhhh good to see your interpretation of body-forming ice crystals SR_6274!

I like the idea of using those crystals on the lower arm as a kind of melee weapon. Now starrrrrt!

Started on the low poly mesh. Sitting around 4900 tri's at the moment and still need to do the head. After the head, I'll see what kind of tri's I have for the ice crystals, and whatever else I might add. Thinking of at least a loin cloth to cover his unmentionables

Will prob do some quick paintovers to see what else I can come up with now that I have the basic shape in 3D.

As always, comments and critiques are much appreciated.

I don't really know your workflow, so i cannot say anything right now.
Will you export this to zbrush, and this is just a base mesh?
Or you will detail this lowpoly where you want it, and after you have the finalized lowpoly you do the sculpting.

either way, the leg doesn't really fit with the concept right now.
And you missed the tail!

This will be brought into z-brush, as this is just the basemesh. I will just add the basic shape to this, then do the high poly.

The leg does look a little strange to me, and I'm hoping to fix that. Your right, I missed the tail completely. Hopefully I would of noticed that before too long, but I do space out at times and might never have remembered it lol.

Hehe Happens all the time, forgetting some body parts or two
I suggest you to do your base mesh while turbo smooth is active, this way you don't have to add so many polys, and you see instantly how it will look once you import it to Zbrush, and divide it once.
Which can be useful, because you can establish the proportion better, and you can see where you need some more polys to refine the basic shape.

Looking forward on your sculpting!

Yea, I know I'm going a little heavy with the polys now, but I can't think of much else to add to him that I can use em for. Maybe a weapon of some sort, or other accessories, but who knows lol.

As I come up with stuff to add to him, I can take polys away as needed, so I'm not too concerned with the poly count right now. I'm still not sure if I will want to re-topo after I have added in some basic anatomy in the sculpting stage. Guess I will have to see how fast I can get the sculpting done.

if your going to stick it in to zbrush you might want to put more space between the fingers and toes....and make the toes bigger or nothing will be left after subdivision.
personally i'd get the shape right before zbrush...(because i hate retoPOO)
