This did cross my mind, but I was thinking this was more of a fantasy style competition, something the classic Trojan Horse for example, or the sci-fi scene in the pro-mo image.

We could make it a rule that is has to be fantasy/sci-fi based only

Well this should be a lot of fun. Gonna have to bump my skill up a few notches over the next month to have any chance in this contest.
Good luck everyone.

Well I was looking forward to entering my first speed modeling competition but oh well. This sounds pretty cool. I like the rule change with the sci fi twist. This should eliminate any controversy that could have evolved otherwise.

On a side note I'm glad to see that the forum is back up and running. I was freak'n out for a second.

Only one word... "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo." Damn yesterday I figured what I was gonna do, and now its gone. I know this theme may be sensitive. I just hoped nobody would pull their religion into this.

Ok. My topic was image of japanese soldier doing a traditional shintó offering in rainy Kokura of August 9, 1945.

And... Trojan horse was a fake offering and cannot be counted as gift to gods by definition. It has been interpeted by Trojans as "offering to Poseidon for safe passage home" and was to be placed in Poseidons temple in Troy. There are plenty other offerings in Greek mythology though. Just an observation

In this context the Shapeways prize is a bit strange especially with the "must be uploaded first" thingie.

if my concept is a modeling contest and the girl that wins is sacrifice to the gods , the scene will have a style from the Mayan era or some egyptian style
is that still match the competition rules ? or i should change it to be a sci-fi ?

sry for my bad english but i got a little confused

I personally think that past religions that aren't practiced anymore could be used, like egyptian, greek or roman, maya and aztec mythology

Make it this big if you want but the final submission is a maximum of 1280x1280 (see brief) as all is judged on the screen, and we dont need to print anything.

It is a bit strange, as it says in the brief, it is only relevant for some people who model a suitable 3d item as part of their project that could be printed. We thought it best to offer in this way it as they are a regular sponsor, rather than remove them completely.
