Gift to the Gods- Monument to the first Angel- Wargrafix

Interesting challenge. I'm thinking something grand. Something that if you saw in real life, would think, "Who the hell could build that???"

Difference is, I'm thinking of a monument on another world of Humans. And of course an interesting altar.

I had a few poses planned, but thinking about how to execute the final lighting got me thinking that the sword over the shoulder pose would cause issues.

The idea is as follows:
A long time ago a war between rival planets erupted. According to legend, an angel descended from the heavens and gave power to the people of the world. Here is the statue carved, built in reverence. The glowing ball in the left hand will look alot like the one in Kane's hand in Command and Conquer 4. Something about that just resonated with me and its been stuck in my head ever since.

Here is the structure concept:

Thank you all for the critique

That's a cool sketch. Are those mountains and the moon I see on the left? If that's the case that's one freakin huge statue. Curious to see more of this.

Why thank you. before I do any piece, I do a 15 mins. mashup design. I am extremely happy with the composition, unlike the yeti challenge where everything went wrong.

Acutally, yes, those are mountains. The object to the left is the planet. A big planet. I went with the ideas that most monuments were over sized for grandeur sake and the more complicated it was, the more important it was.

There so much left to do, but the composition hurdle, once overcome, shorten development time. now its time to flesh out the design and choose with line-work to keep

I saw you're yeti painting and really liked it even though you might not have been happy with your results. Nice flowing sketch to start off with, really looking forward to seeing this design take shape, best of luck

I'm glad you likes it. What I didn't like was the focus that was placed on the secondary character.

But that challenge is over with. Its time to rock out!

I've got some linework going on here. A little more defined. The treeline may get linework, or be painted in,

Hey wargrafix!

Nice stuff here, i really like the "pulling in" feeling of the picture.
The face lost a bit from its female look from the first concept to the next one. I'm not sure if the male features works better. I personally like the first version!
I also think, that the left hand of the monument is weird. (the one holding a globe)

But i like the style, and the clean lines you have here. I'm keeping an eye on this thread!

Good luck

Thanks!

Yeah, the upturned 3/4 view is maddening. I not even sure how I did it in the first pic. lol
If its being read as male, then I have certainly face palmed the piece. x-P

I resisted throwing my stylus against the wall for the hand. It has not been cooperating at all. Hands are my weak point, but eventually they come together. I'm going to take a break, get some sustenance and take a stab at it again.

I save frequently so if I screw up, I'll just try again. I think I'm just preoccupied by the forest, with the lighting I have planned, its either going to be an epic win, or a "haha, you suck" fail.

if that's a human sized character on the pedastal then it seems to big; makes everything seem not as grand in size as youi're going for. maybe scale it down - or you could pull the whole pedastal closer to the camera to balance it out.
