Ah, the priest came out a bit larger than I intended. Not a problem, I'll erase him and draw another.
I'm glad its liked so far. I was a bit concerned the statue might be read as too human because its a statue and not organic. A little secret: Its only one medium. ^_^ ________ Headshop Last edited by wargrafix; 04-05-2011 at 02:41 PM.. |

Care with the "ball" arm, something wrong there. Good start man, keep it up!

Yeah, the ball arm has been particularly troubling. I made a correction to the hand and dropped the sze of the priest.
Ok now for the noob admission. When I saved to upload the linework I mistakenly painted on the Jpeg. Which means I actually had to repaint the original. Now somethings I had liked in the original paint i just couldn't recapture, but I think its moving nicely. I would like a bit of critique on the gold pin on her clothes, does it blend properly? Or is the gold too bright? ![]() ________ IOLITE VAPORIZER REVIEW Last edited by wargrafix; 04-05-2011 at 02:42 PM.. |

I think the pin needed to blend it with red and orange for the darker shading.

i like the color selection and mood you are going for. not sure if you plan on keeping your lines, if you do i would suggest cleaning them up just a little, and adding some line weight.
this was done by a good friend of mine called Enrique Rivera. Notice his use of line weight. Some lines are thicker than others to give the illusion of depth. you can see more of his art at http://enriquerivera.blogspot.com/ ![]() Last edited by TNTxGRAVE; 08-03-2010 at 10:53 AM.. |

@WhiteGuardian: Thanks, I'm experimenting with the color to see if I can get an interesting blend.
@NTxGRAVE Clean lines have always been an issue with me, but even magnified with using a wacom tablet. I checked the site. Amazing! Clean lines and the use of colors really makes his art stand out. I kept the linework on a separate layer in case I decide to abandon it. At some point I may either spend some more time on it or abandon it like I did with the yeti challenge. I always switch the lines on/off when I work, to check how the detail is coming along. At some point, like in the Yeti challenge, the painting detail negated the need for lines. I need to build a better brush collection though. I still hate photshop, and in Painter, it is a little tough to get the exact line brushes. I really hate seeing thick black lines in my pieces, where its not supposed to be. To create the lines here, I didn't use pen, or pencil brushes, just watercolor. ________ Married Woman Live Last edited by wargrafix; 04-05-2011 at 02:43 PM.. |

dont be afraid of lines. they can be your best friend. get to know them. dont be afraid to go out of your comfort zone and really push your lines. These examples i am howing you illustrate different ways you can approach line weight.
here are 2 more examples of line weight, both of these were drawn by me. ![]() ![]() This Naruto was done by Enrique ![]() |

I agree, the artwork is most impressive. Enrique is very talented also.
Funny enough, going without linework is actually outside my comfortzone. In previous pieces it was hit or miss sometimes though. What I do now, is instead of keeping strictly black lines for finished pieces is let the lighting and color values of the object determine the color of the line. This piece will push me a little because of the environmental detail. Here is the piece minus linework and with some more detail. Trees with my paint method is often difficult at best. ![]() ________ LURE_INTO Last edited by wargrafix; 04-05-2011 at 02:45 PM.. |
