wacom intuos 4 question?
Hi, sorry for another intuos 4 thread.
I was just about to buy a wacom intuos 3 and thought maybe for the slight price difference I might as well get a 4. One think that puts me off which is the only thing is that ive read quite a few places that the pen nibs wear out within a week or two from the textured surface. If anyone can shed any light on this who has one that would be great Thanks |

I bought my Intuos 4 last summer, and it's true the pen nib has worn out, but I only started to notice it after several months. I've yet to change the nib, it's still working just as I want it to, though.
Having worked with both Intuos 4 and Intuos 3, I definitely recommend the 4.

Arh nice one cheers Freespace thats good to hear. I was going to get the Intuos 3 but thought for the same price I could get the 4
Ive read that people get the intuos 3 plastic sheets and cut them to size for the intuos 4 so it doesnt wear the nibs |

I bought new sheets and nibs, there are people in my class who use paper on their tablets because they like the feel of it and the nibs worn out faster. I'm glad wacom got spare parts but they are a bit expensive for what it is....just a little piece of plastic

Okay, so does the plastic stop wear? Also how thick is it?

I highly doubt it would 'stop' it, maybe slow it down some. I had a sheet of mylar on mine for a while but took it off. On a heavy workload I can flatten out a nib in a couple of days, so I pretty much just deal with it & keep plenty of replacements on hand.

Since this is a thread with a lot of people who are familiar with the intous 4 I have a little question (if that is okay with tarik).
I'm thinking of buying an intous 4, thus far I've either used a mouse or an intous 1 (A4). The larger ones are quite expensive so the question is if you are limited by using a small wacom? I usually do a lot of sculpting and drawing...

I have an A4 at work and do sometimes miss the extra space when i get home to my A5. It's only really when doing detail work you notice and you can just zoom in to get to the tricky bits if the tablet is too small.
I wouldn't go for the a6 sized ones - they're just too small IMO if portability is an issue, an a5 sized one will fit comfortably in a bag for a 15" laptop whereas an a4 sized one won't. nib wise - in a pinch you can just jam a cocktail stick in the end of the pen, they don't last long but they work (on intuos1 pens, haven't tried on later ones) |

Thanks for answering
![]() On the newer ones you can slow the speed (thus raising your detail level) by x4 right? Is it any good to use?
