Time to start doing some 2d

I know, I know. Should have started a very long while a go, but better late then never ey?
Something simple at first, 20 min apple. Shadow on the ground is messed up, but I'm quite happy with it. Made it way to small also, thats why the lack of details.
Oh, and I used Paintstop in Zbrush.

Would like some help also, what should I draw now, any ideas? Newbie at this.

both look nice.

about "i use paintshop in zbrush" . idint get that tell what u did?

u know maintain a sketcbook and keep using diff mediums ,like water soluble color pencils, pastels , and many more.

refrences can be from photogaphs ,or still life in and outside ur house. live sketching.
drawing action poses from the manikin.

for ur next excerscise , keep an apple as ur subject an liight it up using lamp.
and do it in traditional colors, wud be agreat exprience.

aby: Paintstop is ZBrush's new 2d painting solution, very much like painter, and it came in version 3.5

Did a face without ref, just to see how much I suck. Noses is crazy hard.
Quite much fail, grumpy girl. but first painting of a face in a loooong while so.
Nose is to long..
Has you can see, I really need to learn of to draw without a ref.

umm yes do not dirctly jump on to portraits .

to draw wthout ref. u shud look for cartoon and action drawing tutes on web.

few basics i can share :
an oval for the head shape.
the face is five eyes wide .
that means that the third eye will fall in the centre.
so we can take nose is one eye wide approx
the ears start at eye brough and finish just before theend of botom lip.
the end of bottom lip is where the jaw starts sloping towards chin.

try this or search more in google.

I liked the eye, it looked pretty neat

I usually draw from my imagination, but if you find a nice picture or situation you could always try drawing it. An addition to the practice could also be to try to change the lightning or other elements of your motive.

If you want a pretty nice, easy painting app, try "Mypaint" (it is a freeware)..
It has some really nice brushes which emulate real ones.

Keep it up!

Thx hulahuga, tried the mypaint app when I painted this apple, really nice and simple app.
First color then. Didn't use any ref, but tried to remember the apple I did yesterday.

Nice work, I like the color shifts.

Try making shapes as well, an apple is not perfectly round or symmetrical...
