Destroying live action buildings using CG..

Hey guys. I'm trying to find tutes/guides / anything on the topic! I'm just looking into how much work is currently involved..

Basically I want to get a building, have, say, a monster punch the base of it, and the building collapses.. now, all of this needs to be live action, besides the monster and the things he causes.. so I'm guessing I need to camera match, then recreate the building in 3D.. then when it gets destroyed I need to matt it out from the footage and replace it with a 3D one.. ?

Again, I'd really love a tute.. Most of the stuff that I'll be doing will be within a city and happening to the BOTTOM of the buildings, so I guess matting won't be a HUGE issue.. as I could just overlay the damaged buildings over the live action?

An example is Pixels..

CHEERS!
