[Max2010]Weird specular problem.

I don't know if I accidentally changes some option or not, and otherwise its some weird error that suddenly came up and I can not seem to change it.

Anyway, normally, under "Advanced effects" in any of your light properties, when unchecking the "Specular" option, this should, well, turn off the specular of the selected light. But somehow this doesn't work anymore. Whenever I turn off the specular (tried it with different light sources, Standard and Photometric) Max seems to ignore this and just emits the lights specular on objects.

So I tried radically changing the specular options in the material editor to see if this had any effect, but it didn't. The specular that is casted on the object remains unchanged.

Restarting Max also didn't change anything, and I also tried it under Scanline and MR, both with no effect.

Am I missing something, or is this some weird bug that can be solved somehow?

Tx for advice.

Well, he did turn off the default lightning automatically, by placing that one light, right?

@Nukie
That's the reason I still hesitate to use newer versions of max. It's seems that bugs are more often then ever.
Have you tried to install patch on 3DS Max 2010?

Well if its a bug (and it seems to be like on) then its a major one. But the problem wasn't there before, its just now all of a sudden it seems to be there.

Anyway I didn't installed the Service Pack yet, so now you mentioned it I just did. But it did not help. The problem is still there.

@Linc
Yah as bobi said. By placing a light the default lights of Max are turned off. Strange thing though that turning off the specular works inside the viewport, but not in the render itself.

Hm. I don't know why, but it seems to be working fine again now. Stupid Max.... I hate unreliable bugs.

I get a bit irritated by this, because it seems like it still doesn't work. I really need to turn off the specular somehow, but Max just keeps ignoring this.

Not sure if it is any help (probably not) but if any of your lights have 'Light Shape Visible in Rendering' turned on in the Shape/Area Shadow properties
then you will still get what look like specular highlights even if it's turned off in the advanced effects dialog.
This may only be an issue in MR, I haven't tried it with scanline.

Well I figured it out and I feel kind of stupid about it.
This is my first time I work with photometric lights, and it seems like they produce a much higher highlight on objects around them than standard lights do. So reducing the intensity of the light solved it, and conclusively got the results I wanted.

Could punch myself for it .
