why many parts for what engine?

I see that you have modelled the elf in many parts instead of a unque mesh.Nowdays all game engine support softskinned meshes (one model deformed by bone system with vertex influenced by many bones at time).with the same number of poly and unique mesh the result is better even when you use rigid skinning with only one bone per vertex at time ,because you use many polys to close the part at joints.
even the gba have the enought power for rigid skinning see Blu Rose gba 3d engine by the italian "raylight" (from Naples like me).
Modelling in parts is now used only for game that have to combine pices of different characters or that use one piece for many characters.
for the num of poly i hope that what i'll write will be useful for you or others.
when you model a character for realtime you must have in mind for what engine you are modelling on what hardware(if a cansolle game).
also take in mind:the dimension on screen (if you notice the sharp edges is too near and will go detailed more)the importance of the character (how many times we can encounter the character in the game),
the number of character at the same time(is my game a strategic or a 1vs1 fighting game?)

i' don't like the texture mainly for the skin color and shading.
p.s. turn off specular hilights and bake radiosity on the texture.

i was specific asked to be a separated mesh, its for a persistan world of NWN, and blue was the color they tell me to do it, its my first time modeling and texturing, also the limit was 800 polys and is a secondary character, so i can datailed more without increase thew poly count that by he isnt a main char, and its seen from far,

if you have some tecnique about texturing i can use that adn you see that i need it

Im sure you can do a lot better with 800

polys... If you want take a look at my

WIP... is the doble of your polys, but

when I first started it, It was close

enought.

But remember this take a lot of time...

do not harm yourself saying, nobody

likes your elf...or your work, because

it is not true... the problem is that

artist are really picky about almost

everything, as an artis, you should be

more detailes everytime you work a new

project....

yeah, i see your wip and its good, i was reply to it before, the thing is you post your with 1200, 400 polys is a lot of detail to add, if i only get 200 polys it would look much better, i have seen models that looks amazing with only 800, but i guess i cant achieve that in my first or second low poly

also, are you doing that for a game, becopuse its looking really good, whats the final poly count?

and i was joking about my elf i would never destroy it, i know its not perfect, but is my first

actually, I am only practicing with that model, since i reached the 900 polys. I am going for the 2500 (3000) polys now... you know with the cloth and props. I saved the 900 polys mesh in a different file. The model is for a game, 1000 P is the limit. But the game doesnt look promizing... we think the project is not good enoug yet, we learned a lot of things from this project, specialy me, since this is my first time. And now we are going to start a new project (basicly the same thing, some new guys, etc...)
