Loving the colour palette used so far and sweet little detailing

It took me a while but I got around to working on Misty Rider again. First off I made some changes to the Mist itself because - as noticed by Puckducker - it looked too much like clouds in stead of fog. I also added some textures to the rocks, and though they seem very photographic at the moment, I'm convinced they'll turn out great. Last but not least I added some details (like the birds) and I re-painted the sky, because I thought it was too dull in previous steps.

Off course I'm still very interested in hearing your opinions...

I must take notes of that imprevisive background landscape for my work :P
Well done, I'd have gone for another image proportion tho.
Having more height than width gives more free fall feeling but having more width could let you focus in the action which are the two motorbikes jumping and you could show a bit more of the closest bike getting out of the fog.

I couldn't have done it better tho, so keep on with this great pic!

Thanks for the comments!

@wil_himura: Maybe you're right, but on the other hand, I wanted to focus on the height of the cliff more than on the bikes themselves. I'll give it a try anyway though, it's super-high-res so that won't be a problem

After a great tip from wil_himura - who noted that I should try to work horizontal, to focus more on the action of the bikers - I reconsidered the composition. I threw the pieces around in both directions, but eventually I felt that it wasn't necessarily the direction that was the problem, but the size of the bikers. I wanted to focus on the surroundings and the size of the cliff more than on the action of the bikers themselves, but for that to work, the bikers were to big. I resized them a bit and I feel that helps the scene a lot. Both bikers now seem more insignificant in regard to nature, which I feel strokes better with the subject of both movies.

Thanks a lot to anyone who has commented already. It helps me put things in perspective, so please do go on

Nice work Boco! The environment is so cool
I had some trouble understanding that there are two bikes, because the second one is covered in mist/fog mostly, and i didn't see that its a bike.
But it may be just me, i have some problem understanding things

You're right, I didn't really work on the bikes yet, but I'll try to make the second one pop out more. Thanks for the tip!

Worked some on the highlights/shadows and the second biker. Kudos to Cordero for the tip!
I'm almost done now.

Done and done! It took me over 30 hours to make this, but it was worth it. Included is a WIP-sheet on which you have an overview of the color scheme, the custom brushes I created to build this, and a histogram.

I feel depleted now.

Hey! Grats on the finish, i really like your final image!

Can you explain what does the histogram means on the construction sheet? Its what comes up when you hit levels in photoshop?

And how can someone read a histogram like this? What does your histogram means?
no pure colors, since the graph is flat at the beginning and the end?

A histogram tells a lot about the lightning in a scene.

It shows you exactly how much of the picture is intense dark (left), and how much is intense bright (right). A good histogram should be balanced, so it shouldn't lean too much to the left or to the right. It should start low, then go up and at the end back down. Of course that doesn't mean you can't have a dark or light-toned image, but pure black or pure white aren't very natural and the histogram helps you see those mistakes.

Also, if your histogram shows a lot of 'missing' lines, it means your lightning isn't very fluent.

Thanks a lot for the comments btw! Wouldn't have done it without those!
