Pixologic acquires Sculptris
Sculptris and it's creator Thomas (DrPetter) Pettersson have both been acquired by Pixologic. Thomas P. is now moving to California from Sweden to become a team member at Pixologic.

Funny, just a few weeks back I said this:
Looks like Pixologic was thinking the same thing. Anyways I really love the app, been using it a bunch at the studio recently for concept sculpting. Ultimately it'll be good for Pixologic but it was nice watching such an awesome free app develop. Oh well, least the blender community caught on and is at work on it's own interpretation. Seems like Pixologic were desperate to have this on their team as it's a really good peice of software to start out in when learning to sculpt.....and best of all it was free......now this brilliant application won't be free for long I don't think
![]() I'm really happy for Thomas but sad for those that want to sculpt for free.

Yeah, well I just hope that Thomas can make Zbrush more user-friendly and easy to use.
And besides, the current version is still free ![]() |

This is funny, I showed sculptris to everyone at school and told them that it'll become part of zbrush very soon, even tho if Thomas said was on vacation for a few months if I remember...

Seems zbrush 4 will get some cool new features... let's hope they try to adopt some of Sculptris' simplicity as well since zbrush has a tendency to devour people... (I really don't think Pixologic want to conquer out their own brand thus it will probably be this way. It wouild always be fun though to see them do something more
).Good to hear that he got the job And it would suprise me if he didn't make a team lead for this (I don't know their corporate structure but it shouild be soemthing this way at least...).Thanks for the news!!!

Don't know what you guys are talking about, my Zbrush is super simple
.![]() I would like to see the tools menu revamped and organized more like Mudbox with tabs, plus some other method of selecting brushes because this 3 keystroke stuff they got going on is not at all practical. Aside from that I don't really have many complaints about the interface. Think it's mostly the viewport controls and odd naming conventions that turn people off initially. It grows on you though. |

Sure, I could probably package my interface tweaks in a zip download. Give me maybe a week though for SIGGRAPH to end.

Would be great to have that. Might be so that I give zbrush some more serious tries
. Aside from the basic interface I would really like to see a possibility to customize the movement hotkeys since I find Mudbox' much more fluent right now...

That's probably because you haven't fully realized how great the viewport snapping and the local pivot is yet
. Zbrush's controls are less tailored to navigating 3D space and more tailored to working around a region of interest which to me is better suited for sculpting. To each his own though, there are plenty of people who would disagree. For what it's worth I thought Sculptris had a better standard control setup than Mudbox with a tablet, but that's because I'm just not a fan of the mid air pen gymnastics needed to pan. Sculptris had a great happy medium between mouse and tablet. Last edited by Crispy4004; 26-07-2010 at 07:12 AM.. |

I've actually never had that problem since I always use the keyboard at the same time... (mainly because some of my wacom controls like brus size changer in PS as an example don't work...)
Regarding zbrush viewport controls it is actually a lot because the plain hotkey setup... I don't want to use like three buttons when I work... (I know buhu for me right )

I like the basic zbrush setup more than anything else Ive used. it's one of the few apps where missing your pen button doesn't slow you down very much.
