Lego Pneumatic Forkilft

Hey guys. I got a new computer and I've missed modelling since I've been really busy lately, but I'm gonna start a new project. I'm gonna make this pneumatic Lego forklift.

I already made the technic bars in such a way I can easily duplicate it and adjust the length. I know it won't win any beauty contest, but this works for me.

Well, I hope I'll be able to find enough time to work on this

Finally found some time again to work on it. I got this far in about an hour of modelling and trying to stop the dog from eating the rabbit. Ah well, at least it brings some lively diversion.

I know the two upside down sloped bricks don't have any studs on the top, but that'll be hidden under a plate in a few steps.

Wow. Are you planning to rig and animate this?

Ofcourse. I think the hardest part will be rigging the pneumatic tubes so they don't collide with the rest of the mesh, but I love figuring out stuff like that.

The only small problem I'm running in now is that I have the model the pneumatic cylinders and I don't really know the dimensions. I actually have the pieces, but they're over at my parent's house. So I'll have to find an excuse to go over there and get them

i also have the instruction booklets in pdf format for most star wars lego peices if you want then very handy when making 3d lego bits geez a shout if ya want then and ill email them to u

I always get the instructions from peeron.com. They have every instruction scanned until 2003 or something. Apparently you have to wait for the set to be out 8 years before publishing the instructions.

Anyway, if I ever need one I'll let you know. Right now I first want to finish this one, then I'll see what set I'll do next.

As a big lego fan, there's a very little mistake in your lego pieces : the top knobs are a little to big (diameter), you should slightly reduce this and it will be 100% real-like

Ooh, thanks for that. I always use 5x1.7 for the knobs. I got those measurements from a tutorial on here for a Lego Snowspeeder... so I guess I've been doing it wrong all this time. Ah well, it's only 2mm in diameter and 1mm in length

Anyway, I got some pieces on my desk now, including all the pneumatic pumps and other pneumatic related stuff, so I'll continue with this as soon as I can.

I'd spent so much time on lego modeling that i became perfectionist about them !

I hope you've got a caliper to help you mesuring the pneumatic parts ! Never seen 3d pneumatic legos for the moment : it will be great !!!!

I personally never understood why some one would build something using digital Lego. Why is this done because I am honestly very curious. Is it for fun or to achieve a certain aesthetic?

I'd like to say that it's as a very nice modeling exercice. And at the end, you've got the enjoyment to play lego...in max (or other soft)

That's a totally different way of playing lego...but it's quite fun !

Well, I really like Lego, and I really like 3dsMax... so

For me it's mainly because it's easy. I know exactly what pieces I need to build, where to place them and so on. And by now I really get a kick out of finishing a Lego 3d model and seeing how close it resembles the real thing.

Got some more work done on this.

I also rigged a part of the forklift mechanism.

The only problem I have now is with the steering mechanism. It's the thing in the second picture. I already have it set up so that when I rotate part A, the other axle with all the gears rotates correctly. However, part B and the rest of the stuff that's supposed to move should rotate in the opposite direction. I got it working so that when part B rotates, the beam and the similar part on the other side move with it correctly.

But, how do I get part B to rotate in the opposite direction of part A, preferably with constraints or something? I'm not good with MaxScript, all I know about is it that it uses text
