Week #7 - Old Thai Monastery - Low Poly
Hi All,
Sorry it's been a while since we had one of these but the other day I remembered I photographed this very old Thai building where the monks used to live. This was before we did these comps so I didnt get a full a set as I would have liked but there is still plenty to go on. Big Toe has suggested the (rather tough) limits for this week, they are 500 tris and 512 texture sheet, so its going to be a real challenge with such tight limits and such details to cover, he has also said he would like people to have a go at the surrounding area and objects as well as just the building if you can! (optional but good for points) - any textures are cool, normals, specs etc to make it look as near to the photo as possible! As this is how they will be judged Here is the photo set Please post your wire, clay, texture sheets and final render in this thread, wip and on topic chat is also fine here too, these challenges are supposed to be fun and we are not too strict on the rules. The only prizes are a gold, silver and bronze awards handed out each week. Deadlines as always Midday GMT 1 week away, so this will be Wednesday 27th October Also please note that one of the reasons for these challenges is to help grow our free resource libraries, so the model donations at some point in the future when our system is ready would make us very happy and give a new dimension to the free image library we are building up every week. |

I would say go for the building, the steps, the yard and the simple statues...maybe the wall around the yard too?
Or you can just go for the building or anything inbetween, Big Toe seemed to think that 500 for just the building was a bit too generous! |

Hi ! Are you guys looking for a single shot (that way we can optimize the whole thing) or we must see the building in different angles ? Thanks !

This is going to be harder than I thought. I can only get the small statues (without the top part) trying to be super low poly to 73 tris a piece. I think there are 8 of these; 3 on the front, 3 on the back, and 1 on each side.
That would be 584 tris right there. I reeeeeeeeeally gotta cut down the detail. These might even need to be turned into a set of 2 planes with images for a total of 4 tris a piece. |
