Low Poly Workshop

Hi all. I'm planning on posting any projects i'm working on here for criticism and comments. Hoping to learn and improve.

To start off I'm working on this guy. So far the head has been retopologized and a normal map generated. At the moment I've started to sculpt the clothing and still have more work to do on the gun.

Your gun looks like its been sculpted out of clay.
Not a good look for something thats meant to be made of metal.

You need to have sharper cleaner lines.
Remember you can split it into seperate pieces of geometry.

Here is a small update. The zbrush sculpt is almost done but still have to do detailing on the boots. I got tired of sculpting so generated a normal for the finished shirt and playing with colors. Green is the top color so far, but this may change.

Krallis - Thanks for commenting. The gun we'll get some more edge loops so as to get that clay look out of there. Also, definitely will change the colors on the buttons once I get focused on texturing.

In need of some advice. Would it be best to model the shoe strings or sculpt them out. I'm thinking since there a secondary object to the shoe (not sewn in) that I should model them. But then I think that with them being so closely positioned to the shoe that I could get away with sculpting them in.

Got the final normal generated for the pants. I'll update the rest of the character by tomorrow. The gun is taking the longer than expected to finish.

Here is the basic character. Just have to add some accessories on shirt and boots. Any comments or criticism is welcome.

Finally got the character pieced together completely. Now i have no excuse but to finish work on the Hi Poly pistol, which is has been quite daunting at times. BTW i had someone on another forum ask me what this character is about. I'm going for a generalized look that can be used in multiple settings. He could be an undercover cop, a drug smuggler, a rogue agent. Mainly I made him to get practice in simulating materials. The pants and shoes were designed by Kenneth Cole and the shirt was a random find through google. The head is based off Denzel Washington.

I would like to take the time to put something out there. I thank you Krallis for giving me comments to help with my strive to improve. However, there are many more people on this forum. I can't help but notice that everyone else is looking at my work but not bothering to leave a comment. This is a community. It would be really nice if more experienced artist ( no pun intended to you Krallis) could atleast tell me my work sucks or something. I don't care what ur comment is. I'm just trying to improve like everyone else here.

I posted my work on Polycount and low and behold someone commented. They told me the wrinkles look like crap. I thanked them for the comment and I also agree with comment. I'm a noob at sculpting and texturing. My modeling could use work too. I'm not complaining. Im just stating the facts. Plenty of people on here r posting there work. I've striven to give a comment to everyone work on here. Lets help each other out. Comments help each of us improve. Thanks.

Yeh, I noticed that too, but then sort of got yelled at a bit when I asked why someone didnt point out an obvious flaw.

I think you should change the grey shirt.
The grey trousers look cool, but it looks a bit naff if theyre both grey.
The gun still looks a bit squidgy, maybe post a wireframe?

Krallis - I'll add some more edge loops on the gun to try and create more sharpness. I do see what ur saying on the shirt. I'll experiment further with some new color schemes. Here r the references being used.

I took a minute to look at a few more post on the forum that have gone without comment. I'ts not just me. So, from now on I'll just take it (on this forum) to be that if no comments come then it means that my work is not quite looking right in some way. No comment = fail. lol
