Hey guys. I just saw in the Gameartisans thread that Fred is going to ban bump maps and sculpting as well. So basically all maps should be hand-painted(except normal and bump), not projection-generated(or whatever you call it).

i really don't have much ideas right now, i've just started some rough sketch
![]() and tried to evolve some into something ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i quite don't like the third and fourth, the other maybe are not so bad, the only thing i like is that question mark face, i'm sure it will crash the enemy line at the first sight @imajus: for what i've understand, shadows are more ninja\assassin type characters, yours are still more war general style i think Last edited by Astaroth; 10-11-2010 at 04:15 PM.. |

would still be a good idea to sculpt your mesh and then bake the HP->LP normals just to create a nice diffuse guide. Even if AO and Bump are kicked to the curb, that step is still a good one to make.
I also plan on a scuplt then retopo purely for clean and optimized mesh. (might be preaching to the choir, but I said it none-the-less) Concepts soon! |

I was generating textures from high poly models when i was modding quake 2, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't do it now. |

setschaos good luck
![]() Here is the 3 different armor sets. I'm gonna mix some elements maybe, and then develop a real idea from there with different color schemes. He will have a flag, which he can raise after owning everyone in midfield I also have the perfect weapon of choice for the dude, but I'll probably make more ideas for that too.The designs turned out to be a bit more dynamic, and less heavy then I first wanted, but I like these a bit more. Also, a pipe is a must have for a frog, so that I'll give to him ![]() Which one do you like?

cordero, i like the 2nd better
so in the end, can we use at least Zbrush to paint textures, or should we use only photoshop, in the end they are both texturing tool(ok, zbrush can sculpt too, but it can be used only for texturing too), it seems a strange rule to me i agree for discarding the bump map |

it would seem pretty dumb to not be able to use zbrush...I mean different artist have different work flows...I don't see why not if we are not allowed to use normals

i just saw this fred's post and as i understand they want to ban high res sculpting thus baning all bump, normal maps. cause these games dont use thes emaps. the main idea is to make a character for a online game like wow or something like that. so if you keep away from high res sculpting and use it to build a proper base mesh than its ok. but this is how i understand this idea. so i think hard surface characters will have a minor advantage to organic ones .

@novian: THIS limitations are only for the mini challenge, the official war will have other limitations
what i was wondering is if we should build a character knowing it should be considered a MMO character(so pretty anonimous), or as if it's a special character(like a boss, or a non-MMO character) if we should just create a character with a personality i don't see the reason of doing an MMO based mini challenge, since it would be quite non-MMO based :\ Last edited by Astaroth; 10-11-2010 at 04:52 PM.. |

i am in, and i think high res is ok, just no normal map, but the high res imformation in the normal map can help us to paint the map, right?
