Cool...
Does anyone has any pictures of the first 3D Studio? I can not find anything about it. |

it really wasn't pretty.
this is release 3 which is the first version I used (I'd been using imagine prior to that) - there arent' many screenshots about cos it was a DOS program and screengrabs are hard from DOS (looks a bit like lightwave did about 5 years ago )![]() it was modular so you had the shape editor (splines), 3d editor, keyframer , material editor and renderer on keyboard shortcuts (1,2,3,4 & 5 iirc). in many ways it was a pretty awesome package - the seperation between the keyframer and modeller was quite useful as it meant you didn't lose your original model poses/layouts when animating and the track/key editing was in many ways much better than max was up until v4 The separate renderer was a massive pain, as was the separate material editor but the biggest working issue was that cos you were on DOS there was no multitasking and you had to quit out of max to edit textures. It brings back fond memories in some ways but the overriding emotion i get when i think back to my first 3d movie is frustration ![]() Last edited by poopipe; 25-11-2010 at 08:46 AM.. |

Ah, the first one I used was 3dsmax 2. My first "movie" also reminds me of frustration, cause I expected it to look like something out of StarCraft or Matrix. It did not. Hahah. Poopipe, you must be old as heck.

That Max screen looks like Max has come a long way.
First Max I used was Max 4. Or used: I fired it up once and didn't know what to think of it. The first Max I started experiencing with was Max 5, and later with Max 6. It wasn't till Max 8 I really became interested and started learning. Still am learning however. |

I remember staring at the loading image and wondering how awesome it was:
![]() Here are other loading images, through the versions of 3dsmax. Nostalgia road, man. http://www.guidebookgallery.org/splashes/3dsmax

That max2 splash looks better than all of the newer ones combined imo...
Also first max I ever used is probably 6 or 7.. definitely 7 tho.. I remember that ugly splash haha. Max 7 was also the last one I used -_- |

I remember the max 5 splash vividly because when you saw it you knew you were in for a horrible, horrible day.
IMO the most important versions were 1, 2.5, 4 and 9. everything else has basically been a point release in my opinion. |
