Ritt Loch Vich
Hello all,
I would like to share with you some work I've done so far to illustrate my model from CGSculpt.org's Battle Boss Challenge and hear what you think. The initial concept idea lies like this.. Hidden into the misty, murky shores of the Big Lake, between the moldy folliage and the rotten carcasses of his unfortunate victims, he is lurking waiting in his muddy pit hole for the next unsuspected living creature, mostly fishermen of the Lake. Once a human who lost a bet with Evil, now a beastie shadow, the uncanny critter uses sharpened bones from previous kills to disembowel his prey, eats their hot guts from the still breathing torsos and makes clothes out of their skin to dress with. Then, rips the bones off the flesh and uses the strongest of them to make new hunting weapons;spears, knives, pikes... and hiding again in the oozing mud to play his horriffic hide and seek game with the next boatman. The WIP thread of the challenge is over there http://www.cgsculpt.org/sculpt/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=365 I've been working on some variations of the same composition.. Any comments and critique would be more than welcome ![]() Thanks for viewing..

Glad you like it lebaje, it's still really wip though
my main issue is the lighting I would say. As for the size, the original dimensions are 2923x4000, my next update will be bigger ![]()

hey there!
Nice work! But I feel that the renders without texture on it looks much more cool for me than the final renders somehow. The specular on the wood and on the skin is almost the same, making some of the materials really hard to "read", and they melt together on the character. And probably for these reasons, I like the middle one, where the skin have intense highlights. And probably coz there is a specific mood to it, like a black and white photo. Anyway, keep up the great work! And look in to textures! ![]()

Agree with Cordero's comm.
I'll add this: "Too much details kill the contrast." (It also depends of their level) So it's really hard to find the good balance with details's "strength". It's a great work btw, some more tex/color/tone contrast could improve it. Like the sculpting details all over the place, the originality of the chara concept, and the organic feelin', great piece! |

Thank you Cordero and washka! I appreciate your comments! The thing is that I used multiple ZBrush renders of the model along with overpaint and texturing in Photoshop, instead of a "conventional" render of the scene. So, all the detailing was somewhow flatten out and resulted to a dull and hard to read output.
I will try harder on the colour version of the composition and hope the next update will be more decent ![]() Thanks again for the feedback guys ![]()

now that is a lot better.
few other thing, the wood beside the river look like plastic and the ground look too...bumpy. Maybe if you added some of the detail in 3D (like grass), it would like a little more realistic |

Glad you like it a bit better
sure, I'll fix these issues, my main worry so far was the character and general color/tone issues..

He looks pretty gross that's for sure, but what if you played on his evil, sinister nature a bit more?

Yeah that might be good. Try adding some sort of skulls and excess bones as some sort of camp scene.
Also one thing I pondered was if those bones on his head are an integral part of his skull or a helmet...
