FFXIII Lightning

haroh! been a while. I've mainly done Hard Surface stuff for the last few years so wanted to try my hand at something Organic (my first), which should poke me into learning/using Zbrush more. Going to make Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII including her Blazefire Sabre.

Basically laid out the topology in max and then started adjusting the proportions and shapes in Zbrush. Here's what I have so far. Made a few passes on the details but it still doesn't look quite right, but not entirely sure what it is. Crits welcome.

Looks good so far, Not familiar with the character, but three things I think need changing are, 1- the back of the skull goes too far down, b- the neck shouldn't go straight down, and III- the ear should be a little forward and down, Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, top of the ear should roughly line up with the eyebrow and the bottom with the bottom of the nose, other than that, which is an easy fix, good job.

Thanks guys, bit of an anatomy nab. Made the changes and tweaked a few other parts, looking better now I think. Don't think the likeness is entirely down but once the hair, eyes and props are sorted it shouldn't look out of place.

For those not familiar with the character, here she is:

progress: (not sure what view to show in, the left and front are local and the perspective with perspective on :/)

Worked on the eyes and face shape to get them a little closer. Prolly going to start on some clothes now.

Just made a bash mesh of the basic forms so I have something to wrap the clothes around, hinted at a few loops but nothing major. Minor tweaks to the face - brow line and softened the jaw and lips. Kind of learning Zbrush as I go, made a start on the armour piece after drawing the crest as I couldn't find it anywhere on the net.

Undecided whether to finish the armour piece in Max for a super clean result or stick with Zbrush for learning sakes.

Last piece is a little sloppy as I'm a Zbrush nab so I'll redo it in Max to match this piece. Few straps to add and then connect the 2 together, once I've remade it. (Shoulder Armour if you didn't know)

Sorted the bottom bit out. Just testing the displace out so thought I'd post the pretty pictures.

Hi. You're on the right path. Nice render and materials. But I think the head needs to be tweaked more, such as the eyes which need to go a little deeper.

How many references for her face are you using?

i really like the bottom part of your arm thats hanging realy nice detail. im not too keen on the yellow part though. i dont think it blends so well been all soft and the rest of the armour been hard edged. is this piece going to be futuristic or medieval ?

Thanks guys.

SgtHK: Yeah, I agree man. Was just sick of working on the same thing for a few days, will get back on it soon and get it right. I have a bunch of pics and all the cinematics from the game so I have a fair amount. She does have a somewhat featureless anime face though, attached a few pics if you see what I mean.

meowmeow:
It's not actually my design, posted a link to the character a few posts down. Attachment has a pic as well, blame SquareEnix ツ

Made her skirt, if you can call it that lol. Think I'm going to have to remake this as well, my completely unplanned workflow has near enough rendered this piece useless. Think it looks a little too stiff and the seams are too massive anyway, trying too hard. Learning fun times.

I quite like the roughness Zbrush can give armour pieces, it makes it look more man-made and made of worked metal, to me anway. Really nice work looking forward to more.

meowmeow: That's hot on girls though right? hah. Basically because I haven't sculpted her ass properly it should be the base of her spine around about there. All of that is covered up anyway so didn't pay much attention in the sculpt. She wears like half corset under her skirt too, which would cover her ass up.

Rilman: Yeah, I agree on some things. I had a few crits and the SquareEnix model is real sharp too so I decided to remake in Max SubD.

Mashed up the boots base meshes, just need to sculpt the **** out of them in zBrush. Sucky work all weekend so prolly update on Tuesday.
