Some will probably say that i'd forgotten to finish my radeon card... wrong ! Still working on it but i'm waiting to have a good progress to post some news
![]() I've just found back my good old legos and, due to Aramor and his "problems" with his own lego set, i decided to realise something i've never tried : animating a 3D lego engine. I started this afternoon to model the basic pieces of the engine. I think i'll start a set next this animation test and this set will include a similar engine, pneumatic stuff and electric engine. ![]() Last edited by JoeLaFrite007; 13-06-2012 at 01:59 PM.. |

That looks nice. Can't wait to see what it looks like when animated. Will you build a vehicle around it as well?

Thanks mates !
@Aramor : I don't really know what i'm gonna do next... i'd like to restart my #8880 supercar (i'd lost my files in a computer crash) and make it entirely rigged...but i'd like to do one of the first lego technic set i had : a truck with V6 engine, electric and pneumatics stuff : the #8868 set. @I_AM_DAVE_COX : wooo, don't dirt your keyboard because of me ![]() I'm currently modelling some basic lego stuff to make a first assembly...should be ready for tonight ![]() |

Oh man, the 8868 set is sweet. I always wanted one of those.

@Aramor : the #8868 was my really first big technic set...and i well remember that the one who played the more this set was my father
![]() Update : Yes, I did it ! (as would say Dora... )Here are some assembly test with a very simple V8 engine assembly. I've already only done the rig of 2 pistons : i've cut the cylinders to show the moves (link below the 2 pictures). The coming step is to animate the whole V8 engine. Renders are aweful...this will be solved further ![]() ![]() ![]() Animation : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JleQZuBghhA Last edited by JoeLaFrite007; 13-06-2012 at 02:00 PM.. |

Your V8 project looks great and the renderings are not that awful.
My only suggestion is to rotate the pistons and wristpins 90°. This is the standard shape of a conrod. Last edited by xyzr; 15-03-2011 at 10:50 AM.. |

Thanks a lot mates !
@xyzr : Thanks for the detail of a real rod ! Legos are more "simple" : the rod/piston connection is not a simple pivot but a "spherical joint" (picture below). ![]() I've finished the building of my engine and its animation ; here it is : Here are some renders with and without the inside details. ![]() ![]() Last edited by JoeLaFrite007; 13-06-2012 at 02:00 PM.. |

You're welcome xyrz !
Thanks Lebaje...yes, it's gonna be epic once more i think ! Before starting the "big mama", i'm gonna finish my basical lego pieces library...and try to adpot a new way in making it : i'm gonna use X-Ref with proxies to save some ressources... |

Here comes the first steps of the #8868 set.
I actually have modelised all kind of bricks, plates and axis. I've realised for each some proxies to have nice viewport performances. Because i'm using X-Ref, i'll apply this method to all objects. I'll model each new part as i meet them in the instruction book. Hope you'll like it ! ![]() Last edited by JoeLaFrite007; 13-06-2012 at 02:00 PM.. |
