Am I right in thinking that texturing is not part of the time limit?

Correct, you can texture for as long as you like.
Creation of normal/displacement maps are classed in the modelling time though.

SMC #02 My Entry!
Hi Folks, My first time entering a 3D Total speed modelling competition, everyone's producing such amazing work. Here's my entry, it's based on a restored gas station that I think is in Portland. Look forward to next weeks now....

Finally i got it finished, max didnt like the scene, renders took way too long :S
I tried to replicate the fuelstation from Toystory (1995) as close as possible. It was possible to duplicate most objects for the entire scene. also i noticed that pixar seemed to be fond of the "extrude spline" functions back then, so that was quite fun to discover (and easy to replicate) The fuel hoses are made of 3dsmax "hose" objects, they are dynamic objects that couple to 2 specified points. Both roofs are actually a spline that got extruded, shelled and then tweaked to have the indent using a "edit poly" modifier The sidewalks and "islands" in the center are just splines with the bevel modifier. The H beams are splines with a sweep modifier. I hope you all like it, i've seen really great entries so far!

Lonelymonk- a warm welcome to the forum. Nice first entry! I personally don't like the DOF on one of the renders, it makes the gas station look really tiny, not a big deal, as the most important thing here is the model, wich is good.
Rachel - Great entry as expected, nice use of splines. |
