hey dude, bakes are the basis of modern day gaming optimization. Essentially, they give a low poly base mesh the appearance of greater detail through lighting tricks. 3D Total has a lot of articles on them. here's one on Ambient occlusion: http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/3d_s...mapping_01.php
