The Art Director is responsible for defining the look of our next AAA title, then inspiring and leading the art team to realize that vision.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Creative Director and the other members of the art team to define the graphic style and mood of the product.
• Ensure consistent application of style and mood across the product, refining and improving the vision throughout the production process.
• Work with internal and external concept artists, using found art or working from scratch, to produce concept and reference pieces defining the graphical look of the product.
• Identify problem areas in production, then work to find the best compromise between the artistic needs of the project and the technical and organizational capabilities of the team.
• Understand the capabilities of our technology, and work with technical artists and the coding team to define new technologies and approaches that move us closer to the artistic vision for the game.
• Proactively communicate the artistic vision of the game to the team, to our publishing partners, and eventually to the press and public.
• Mediate the impact of visual design on game play, and vice-versa.
Qualifications:
• At least five years of industry experience.
• Demonstrated success working as an art team lead or—even better—as an art director.
• Have shipped at least one product that you’re proud of, and that we’re impressed by.
• Strong artistic skills.
• Familiarity with all the various parts of a modern art production team— character and environment design, modeling, texturing, animation, lighting—and mastery of at least one.

Character Skinning & Pipeline Artist - Rockstar North

In this role you will provide support throughout the character production process working closely with artists in the character team; using our rigs to skin character bodies and faces, and prepare them technically for export. A reel/portfolio demonstrating exceptional 3DStudio Max based skinning skills is a prerequisite. Additional skills in secondary areas such as character art/modelling are prized, and knowledge of rig creation and character topology is it relates to animation is also a plus.


Responsibilities:

• Use predefined character rigs and tools to effectively skin both bodies and faces on character assets.
• Work with the team to create balanced solutions to all related technical and aesthetic issues.

Requirements:

• Positive, solution-oriented individual with a passion for game development.
• A demo reel which demonstrates exceptional skill in skinning human figure game assets for animation, both body and faces.
• Understanding of human body and facial anatomy as it relates to game assets and topology
• Excellent understanding of development workflows as they relate to getting character assets into game engines.
• Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a self-directed manner and to make timely, well-thought out decisions.
• Bachelors Degree in Art or from a competitive program is preferred.
• Additional skills such as current game character art creation/modelling, rig creation are a plus.
• The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in video games development.
• Advanced knowledge in 3D Studio Max is preferred; Maya users or equivalent 3D program will also be considered.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work closely in a team setting with other departments.

Preferred:

• Production experience with PS3, XBOX 360, and/or PC.

Facial Rigger needed

• Minimum 3 years Games or Film/TV industry experience required, 5 years preferred. • Extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and the application of that to solving rigging and animation problems. • Keen eye for facial expression and nuance, with the ability to interpret and execute expressions from video, 3D scans etc. • Thorough understanding facial topology with respect to modelling as well as animation. • Experience and knowledge of both bone and morph solutions, with up to date knowledge of new and late-breaking rigging approaches in the field. • Understanding of and ability to construct scalable rig-solutions for different levels of facial performance • Knowledge of 3rd party solutions such as FaceFX and Faceware would be beneficial • Knowledge of game engines and animation pipelines, understanding of how texture and animation compression can affect the final result • Experience with or understanding of, performance / live facial capture preferred. • Must be highly proficient in scripting (Maxscript and Python), appropriate ORSDK, C++ knowledge advantageous • Thorough knowledge of Motionbuilder and 3DS Max essential, must be proficient with expression and scripting approaches for rigging and automation processes.

SCAD Savannah seeks candidates for full-time faculty positions in visual effects. Qualified candidates should have the terminal degree or its equivalent in visual effects or a related field. A strong portfolio and industry experience is important. College-level teaching experience is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate, by providing a video reel with breakdown, CD or website, an expert proficiency in applications that utilize procedural modeling concepts and animation techniques, specifically Houdini. The professor will communicate the advantages and applications of procedural modeling, animation, particle f/x, scripting in Python and expressions in a Unix/Linux environment as they relate to students of diverse experiences, with a focus on the various visual effects industries. Candidate should be well versed in look development, digital materials and textures using Maya. Experience teaching coursework through the Web is a plus.

Digital Domain Media Group, located in Port St. Lucie, Florida is seeking a Pipeline Supervisor and will be conducting interviews at Siggraph in Vancouver.

Summary:

As a strong, technically knowledgeable leader, this role oversees and is accountable for long-term facility planning and implementation of an efficient and effective pipeline that allows artists to focus on creating the highest quality images while working within an established production timeframe and budget. The Pipeline Supervisor directly manages the technology aspects of the Show, overseeing the configuration of the production pipeline and enhancing facility wide performance for a given Production.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

•Drives the Core Building block, Process and Idealized Pipeline Implementations for Digital Productions and Pipeline Projects
•Anticipates pipeline development challenges and identifies solutions with team of DFX Supervisors, CG Supervisors and Software Engineers
•Participates in show approach planning with key stake holders and attends weekly project technology status meetings
•Balances short term show needs with long-term strategic requirements and priorities, giving instruction to the Global Supervisors when necessary for action.
•Responsible for resource negotiation of staff with Production to ensure adequate coverage of technology areas. Including resource allocation, show staffing, and shortage/overhire determination
•Assist the Global Pipeline Supervisor in expressing the studio pipeline evolution plan properly to the Senior Executive staff and studio at large
•Partners with Production to help lead a working group of TDs, Software Engineers, show Supervisors, department Supervisors, and key Digital Artist leaders to continually monitor, maintain, and enhance facility wide performance for Production across multiple locations
•Acts as an escalation point for Supervisors, Production Management, and Artist Management to resolve conflicts; ensures limited resources are effectively utilized and artists efficiently tasked by matching artist skill set to assignment identifying cross-utilization opportunities whenever possible
•Promotes a positive and productive work environment and leads collaborative efforts across the facility
•Ensures effective communication between DFX Supervisors, CG Supervisors, and Area Leads to ensure critical information is shared across shows

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
•BS or MS in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent
•Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in feature film on the post-production side required
•3-5 years management/leadership of software, pipeline, or technology teams required
•Ability to write code in Mel, Python, C++ and assist in tool/pipeline development
•Strong working knowledge of multiple 2D and 3D software packages and pipelines required
•Experience with large-scale visual effects or animation pipeline required
•Demonstrated organizational, problem solving, and project management skills required
•Must have strong leadership qualities with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor both technical and creative individuals
•An experienced and honed creative eye required
•Must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
•Proven ability to drive initiatives while maintaining perspective on company goals
•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
•Ability to establish priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work with diverse personalities and all levels of management and technical staff in a high-pressure environment
