Barrel and more
Hi!
I made this barrel to my low poly portfolio. It is not a big deal, but I hope you like it. C&C welcome ![]()

Not bad but the textures could do with some tweaks. If the metal rings are green from age and decay then I would expect the wood to be similarly weathered. I would also expect some level of discolouration where the metal is next to the wood and some more dents, scratches and scrapes in the wood

Nice job, solid piece of work.
I'm going to wade in with my technical crits now ![]() You could half the texture size, and make it 1024*512 or something. You could have the body of the barrel repeated around, just make it tile along the X axis. Then have the top and the bottom of the barrel sharing the same texture space. I feel like I say this alot to people, but the smaller you can make the texture, the better. In reality you could probably half the texture again, and still achieve the same effect, it's all about being clever with your UV's and modelling.

First of all: thx guys!
Well... this barrel seams to be empty, but I'm planing to make a whiskey barrel, wich will be much more precise. This time I only wanted to make something that proves, that I can do it. I mean a lowpoly barrel. At the moment I am working on a street lantern. After it I will make an ammo box or something like that. I will post all of my works here, so you can write crits, I can learn from. After that I will do some cleanup, makeup or remake the achieve the best I can, so I can show up a lowpoly props portfolio. So! Thats my plan. How does it sound? ![]()

Looks good. I'd advise you to rethink your UV layout. The curly bits are very inefficient, as it could be laid out as strips.
The bottom also needs to show more wear. Granted I don't know what surface it is intended for, but a general rule of thumb is to have some sort of variation of dirt around the base of an object as grimey as this one. Use a different shader. The current shader you're using doesn't seem to have any specular highlights to show the curve of the shape. Good job, just needs a few tweaks.

I agree with Prime, but good low poly nevertheless.
