chrome

ive made a guitar using 3dsmax 4.2, and its skinned, with some basic textures. but the chrome parts dont look real. how do you make realistic looking chrome in max4.2, only using the mat editor [i cant skin at all].
also, the body on the guitar needs to be shiny, and reflective. theres a skin for that, but i cant find a way to make it reflect the floor or lights

You need to assign it a raytrace material & then change the reflectivity settings. one thing to remember is that reflective surfaces need something to reflect, so either create some scenery or else find a suitable map & use it as an environment map.
For more realism, have a look a www.neilblevins.com & read up on how he does his metal materials, including IOR adjustments.
