UT2K3-Character-BILBO FRAGGIN'S

Hey!!

here are the updates that i added last night.

1. started on the feet.
2. started on the shotgun holster and strappy thing on his back.
3. started outlining his bio-suit thingy. ( those aren't his real muscles ya know)

please try to remember that he isn't based on any film, cartoon, painting of bilbo baggins, but is instead my own cartoony interpretation of the bilbo character. ( albeit a slightly futuristic version, coz he has a shotgun and bio-suit)

p.s looking at it this mornig with new eyes i think maybe his arms are a little too long. what you think?

hope to hear off you all soon.

cheers!!

hm maybe his hands are a bit too long, the arms look fine for me.. and the foots looks a bit to.. weighty.. it looks like he won't be able to walk in my opinion
the rest seems great but could u post a more detailed view of the head ? from here the mouth seem a bit strange..

hey!!
thanks for the reply Seldaek

i think you have a point about the hands. gonna work on those tonight.

the feet are supposed to look weighty coz he is a hobbit. if anything i think they look "inflated" like 2 ****** great balloons on his legs

his face is the last thing i will be working on. it's not often you stop to look someone in the face before you blow the crap out of them so i think that the poly's will be btter spent somewhere else.

more updates tomorrow.

cheers!!

Three other things you might want to work on are his forhead upper arms and hands.

I think he has to much of a forhead (lower the hair line a tad). Also the palms of his hands should not be in a straight line with his arms, they should come down a bit so that they are sticking out (takes all the vertexs located at the bottom of his palms, and bring them down a bit).

As for the upper arms, when his arms are in that position, his lower arms should be wider then his upper arms. You will have to raise your own arms, into the same position as your model, and see what I mean exactly if you do not understand what I mean here.

Otherwise, it's looking great!! Keep up the good work dude, everything else is certainly coming along fine

ok i cant tell from the pics really its not much to put an opinion on

why dont you post a non wireframe aswell

and teh angle for the hands you just cant tell anything by

but as for te feet.. man that looks ****

i cant stand the emfasis everybody is putting on th hobbits feet these days

they had large feet wih tough soles and they were hairy

they werent ****ing huge ballony feet they could barely lift

if i had feet that big my leg muscles would be bulging just from having to carry them let alone run and work with them

and large feet for a halfling would still only be around normal human sized feet not these massive pieces of grotesque flesh

ok so i went overboard,.. in a toned down version of the above

the feet look silly that big i suggest you make them normal human sized

head is still very much w.i.p i will come back to it when i know how many poly's i have left to play with when i have finished all the other features.

they do stick down abit but i think you could be right about this one.

i have tried flapping my arms about but i don't think i understand what you mean. are you saying the forearm should be thicker than the bicep part? coz my arms don't look like that.

tykeil: chill out man!! ok, the feet are wip and will be the next thing i change, just for you.

if you saw my previous post it said something about the feet looking like balloons, so ha. i beat you to it.

keep the crits comming. more updates tomorrow, didn't have time to do any last night.

You should reduce the size of the bicep section as it's too long & looks a little inflated as well. don't forget that the bicep only bulges out on the front of the arm like that - the triceps take a different shape. Also the shoulders are too large. Those two points make the forearm look underdeveloped and too short by comparison, but I think the size of the forearm is about right & the other parts should be scaled to come into line with the forearm, although the forearm could be a little bit longer. The hands may be a touch too long too - on a short creature like this, you would generally find large flat palms and stubby short fingers.
He doesn't seem to have much in the way of a neck, but it kinda looks ok like that. Is he wearing some sort of hood? It's difficult to make out what that is at the moment, but with textures it will be different.
Overall, a good start definately. The leg & hips sections look good & solid. Keep updating.

i agree. think i'm just gonna get the basic layout of the model from now on. then when i have that i will go back and refine parts. maybe add a poly or 2 here and there. you know how it is.

i've always known that there were probs with his arms, i just couldn't put my finger on what it was. thanks for pointing it out to me.

again, i agree. but i was being lazy and so nicked the hands from the joan of arc tutorial that i did ages ago. (low poly version of the , obviously)
think i better go back and change them.

yes, he is wearing a hood, and yes it is difficult to see. what i was trying to do was to hve him wearing body armour (which i still need to finish and will be more obvious when tex's are done) and his hood was attached to it at the neck. i was thinking about giving him a full cape but scrapped the idea, coz i wanted the shotgun holster on his back.

thanks for the crits/coms
keep posting

cheers!!

here is a close up of the head.
this is the last thing that will be tweaked. this is just a very rough version. you should be able to see what is going on with the hood more clearly now.

thanks
hope to hear from you all soon.

cheers!!
