Mount up - Joshjamesh

Hi guys I am new to the forum signed up today I have recently graduated from a computer games design course at the university of Huddersfield and to help my portfolio along to get a job I am going to try and compete in as many competitions as possible, my friend CLP does alot of 2D art work on this forum so i thought I may join and give the 3D changeless a go

Well as far as inspiration goes I have no idea how this came into my head but I wanted to go some thing a bit more quirky and organic isnt a strong point of mine so this kinda fit i also imagined a nuclear bomb with a saddle on it which i may concept up if i get some time.

Could some one clarify if it is only one Entry per person? if not i may give that second concept a go if i have time

Welcome to the forum! Nice start with the concept I think you're only really supposed to submit one entry but there's nothing stopping you working on more than one and then picking the best for your final submission

Hi Nick thanks and thanks for the info i doubt il get both done but there no harm in doing more even if i cant submit i can always put it in my portfolio :P

well this is what i have done so far in the past couple of hours :P that and procrastinating :P

jus blocking it out with a turbo smooth on but the base is at 900 ish polys, 1,730 tris but can be taken down further which i will do once high poly is completed before starting the UV.

Im trying a new approach for me of creating the high poly in max and baking it down so not sure how it will turn out yet but its an industry standard technique i must get better with so :P

also toying with the idea of having the turbines bellow the broom rather than level but im not sure what i like more but when it is all done its not going to take much to tweak if i decided to or not or even add a third lol :P

hope u all like

Above looks better balanced to me and it gives you the option to add a steering column and something like undercarriage at the front to aid with landing. Remember that you have 12,000 tris to play with so you can go to town on this one

witch and cat

thx Nick

tho i never rli imagined a steering rack more like the witch controlled the direction and speed by leaning still but wel see what happens once im finished with the main tho i am going to add wires and stuff i want the turbines to look a bit beaten up and old like this was an experiment/prototype :P

the image shows the pose of the witch and if i get the time may have a cat (green sphere)curled up on the turbine :P

do the witch and would the cat be included in the tri count? as they are the riders i would guess not but i would rather be sure?

Change!

so i fell out of love with the broom jus started to like the bomb idea more so decided to knock an idea up with out concept :S the bomb was fine quick to model based on a fat man nuke but the saddle seems to be a bit trickier :P

im thinking maybe either a overly chubby cowboy or small chubby child riding it possibly as one of the children rides u get at supermarkets.

the only thing turbo smoothed is the bomb hub im not sure if il leave it like tht or go back and add in loops myself to reduce the amount of polys used

I preffer your new idea, I think the guy sitting on a nuke will give you more possibilities when it comes to adding details and it also has that comedy element to it which people will like

progress

thx Darkmonk

I have a quick photoshop paint over to show what i was thinking

also im going to have bars down the side for the kid to climb up also may move the insert coin thing to a separate stand like an american parking meter.

not sure to go with this style or a more pixar/disney sort of style yet.
