C4D is pretty good from what I hear. Comes with a GI renderer now. And WAAAAAY cheaper than max, maya or XSI

Version 8 is an incredible package, especially once you start adding modules like thinking particles, mocca, pyrocluster, dynamics, bodypaint2 (a must have for texturing!), advanced renderer and the others.
Fast, stable, good workflow, excellent rendering speed and quality and one of the fastest evolving packages out there. It's gone from pretty good (~ver 6) to able competition with some of the more commonly considered top packages. |
