I played with corel draw 5 from God knows how long.By the age of 10 I found Corel Dream. At 12 I got Bryce and fooled around with primitives and terrain.
In some magazine I found out that the movies in StarCraft were made in 3dstudiomax and then I started modelling in Max with entusiasm (that was at the age of 14-15, I guess)

Talking

I started using PhotoShop when I was ten. I then moved on to Milkshape a few months later. Got sick of Milkshape too primitive.
A year later I got back into 3d and started mucking around with programs like LightWave, Bryce, PaintShopPro and Maya but was not impressed. I was 12 when my cousin gave me a Burnt copy of 3DS Max 3.0 this program was about 7000 dollas australian at the time so you can imagine how excited I was. I have used every copy of Max scince then and I love it.
I have used about every 2D and 3D program out there but Max and Photoshop are by far the Best.

Very first I had Deluxe Paint Animator, wich included a 3d feature. Then I had Autocad from Autodesk. I was about 12. Then I got 3d Studio 4 for DOS when I was about 14 and a week later I learned how to change the view from a wireframe to a shaded preview. To get the Rendering done took me about a couple of months. Then Years of experimenting and first morphing and bones/skin. With a cow Yeah! Trying the 3dstudio Scripting and then finaly moved to 3dsmax 1.2 together with a book. Tried to write a 3d-engine in Turbo Pascal, then in Borland C, then in C++. I was about 16/17 then. With the help of 3dsmax 3++ I had lots of sleepless nights (18?). And now arrived at 3dsmax 5.1, cause the 6 isn't running with my Graphic Card. Oh yes, I'm 21 now.

Long story cut short. I have gained nearly no skills since then.

Been into drawing & art generally since I was a wee lad. First tried 3d on an amiga 1200 I was about 19, 20 I think - lathed a wine glass, (no real texturing to speak of,) then convinced my gf to let me buy a pc "I'll use it for stuff other than games I promise! It could be useful for cv's etc & I'd still like to have a go at that 3d stuff." That was about 22 maybe & turned out to be the best investment I ever made - rather than just using it for games (I do play sometimes on it,) I got heavily into 3d. First I got a little package called simply 3d 2 - very cheap & made for web logos etc. Textures were all drag & drop but I learned a lot from that package such as how to manipulate objects in 3d space, the 4 up viewports & there was some basic mesh editing allowed, so I tried to push it as far as I could. Got max 1 whenever that was around after buying a book on it, (& naively being dissaponted by the fact that it wasn't included on the cd, followed by being shocked at the real price,) & been plugging away ever since & starting to feel like I'm making some headway at last now. Total time involved properly, probably about 8 years or so - I'm 29 now.

I began 3d at the age of 9 or 10(one of the two.....bad memory ) My first 3d program was Blender.....and it all started from there....I just branched off to 3dsmax

Then photoshop.....I used that ever since I can remember.......it kind of came to me naturally since my father taught it to students

Doper: Yeah I am pretty lucky, I got born into art......oh and did I mention my dad was also a visual art teacher to? Lot of ppl I know started 3d/2d without any background info on it. Any question I had could be easily answered.......and my god is it ever a help!! I have learned so much just by watching and listening.....and I have never took an art coarse.....cause my art coarse is at home, and it doesn't get better than that

Profane: You said you fiddled around wih max and then went to maya and stook with that.....well what made you change to maya??

Mike: Thats quite a story.....so what your saying is if your gf didn't let you buy the pc you would have never got into 3d?? Wow you must love her off just for that hehe, well I guess that can go for all of us......its just one moment in our life that turned us to 3d

Fusion - lol, well actually we just split up after 11 & 1/2 years of being together, but don't worry about it, it's cool. But yeah I guess if she hadn't allowed it, I might not have got into it, but I was always interested in 3d ever since I first saw it, so I think I would have got into it eventually anyway.

I've used photoshop for quite a while, one and a half/two years or so. 3D I got into for real in august last year when I was thirteen. Now I'm fourteen and I hope a little bit better on 3d then I was when I was thirteen.
